Dear family of Nicole, you maynot remember us, but Kaleigh quin was in the same class as Nicole at saint Anslems and we always remembered Nicole as the gorgeous happy girl who was kind and friendly! It is so difficult to sum up a beautiful sweet life with a few words. I have such vivid memories of Nicole running around St. Anselm's schoolyard with her beautiful almost white curls. She always stood out, almost like one of the girls in a Renoir painting.
I was thrilled to be able to teach piano to Nicole for 7 years. During that time I came to know her as a very mature and caring young lady. She always walked into the room with a smile on her face, and immediately wanted to know how I was doing. When she hadn't practiced enough, she had a way of directing my attention to the positive. She'd say, 'Well Ann, I didn't get this piece learned, but look at the wonderful job I did on 'Funny Puppy'. I thought to myself, that this girl could be an ambassador.
Last spring I bumped into Nicole on Bayview Avenue. She was with a friend. I counted on a brief exchange, since we hadn't seen each other for a while. I was so impressed that Nicole spent a good 15 minutes chatting with me; wanting to know all about Kate, and what university she had chosen. Nicole assured me that Kate would do just fine; again always thinking of others; truly interested in others. I feel so privileged to have known and taught your beautiful daughter Nicole. I will remember her for the rest of my days.

Dear Houston family,
Nicole was in the same grade with our daughter, Gabriella, and they spent their lunches together, lots of snapchats :) and occasionally activities outside of school. We did not meet Nicole personally, but knew about her from Gabby. As a father, I had to take some time before being able to write this message, as I could not put my mind and head around the passing of Nicole, a beautiful 16 year old girl who was just starting her life. Gabriella wanted to write a text to us when the sad news was given to them at school and she tried a few times as she could not type the words without starting to cry. For us as parents trying to figure out what you are going through it was beyond sadness and pain and even beyond being shocking. As Christians, we prayed. We prayed for you, for love and strength and your family and prayed for Nicole, a beautiful and innocent angel.
May God protect you and keep you.

It was in great shock that I hear the bad news about Nicole. She was a very nice and caring friend and it is so sad to see her go. Whenever I used to be early to school, Nicole with some other friends were always there and we used to have lots of fun and laughter together. Unfortunately I am not in Toronto now but I cherish all the memories from grade 5 to 10 . In addition to that I luckily ran into her in Fairview mall this summer during. Although we didn't know Nicole for long, we were both struck by her maturity, sense of humour and love of family. I fondly remember the dinner we shared at Tesoro this past summer with Karen, Elle and Grandma, where I commented on how impressed I was that the kids were such good eaters of things most kids don't like. Nicole was very quick to tell me how she loved experimenting with new foods, as she and Elle kept sharing each other's meals! It was too sweet. Another great memory was at the bon fire this summer at the farm in Collingwood. Steve and I enjoyed sitting with Nicole at the fire and talking to her about her summer and her travels. All 3 of the Houston girls are special and wonderful and you are lucky to have such a close family. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

There are no words to describe the feelings and thoughts associated with loosing a loved one, especially in the case of Nicole. Every time I came to hangout with Kylie or passed Nicole in the hall, she always had a bright smile and sense of humour that could light up a room. I feel privileged to have known her and to have been able to spend the weekend with her at Queens last year. She was so much fun to be around and it is no secret that she greatly impacted everyone that she came into contact with. She was a beautiful (inside and out), intelligent, funny and bubbly girl. I know that she will be missed by many, but she will always be with us. She will be remembered as the incredible person that she was, sharing so many wonderful memories with so many wonderful people. No one you love is every truly lost. We may not be able to see her, but somewhere out there, an angel named Nicole walks with us, smile and all. I would like to offer my deepest and sincerest condolences to the Houston family for the tragic loss of Nicole. Teaching Nicole was a real pleasure. She had a vibrant and friendly personality. Every other day for the entire year I taught her, Nicole and her two close friends would have lunch with me in my classroom. This brightened my days for I was kept in good company and got to share stories and laughter. I will always remember when Nicole would take the opportunity at lunch to call her mom about how she performed on a math test or quiz, and how excited she would be when her grade was at or above her expectations. I ask God that Nicole rest in peace, that she continue to smile and laugh as she always did, and that the Houston family be consoled by the grace of the Holy Spirit.

Heaven gained another angel. Nicole was always so outgoing, had a smile on her face and knew how to make me laugh. Her personality was like none other, quirky and caring. Growing up we enjoyed days in the pool, having sushi and just hanging out. Not a day goes by without a thought of you Nicole. I love you dearly. xoxo

I extend my deepest sympathies to all of Nicole's friends and family. May our condolences bring comfort and our prayers ease, to the pain of this loss. She bestowed countless memories,that we will cherish forever, onto us all. Her irreplaceable friendship to me and many others will be profoundly missed. I am so grateful that I had the privilege to have been in the presence of an undoubtedly precious being, as she taught me more than I could have ever imagined. Her contagious smile spread warmth into our hearts and her laughter lit up everyone around her. May God give her beautiful soul eternal rest.

I would like to express my deepest condolences at this very difficult time. There are no words to express the profound sadness felt by your lost. Please take comfort in knowing that you are in my thoughts and prayers. It seems like only yesterday when Nicole was 5 and so ready for Sr Kindergarten! Even then her cheerful positive attitude came through in everything she did. God has a plan for us all,and though it does not always make sense to those who are left behind, I take comfort in the thought that she brought such joy to so many and shared so many gifts in the time she had here. I feel blessed to have known her. As an angel in heaven she will watch over you all, and will live forever in our hearts and memories.

I will always admire Nicole for her strength in standing up for herself and those she loved and for being so unapologetically herself. I am eternally grateful to her for being one of my first true friends at Del and talking with me when I didn't have anyone else. Her compassion and kindness will be with me always. It's difficult to write in the past tense about someone who was always very present - embracing every moment. Nicole was a star in her own right and on her own terms who shone brightly on stage in our Grade 10 drama class.
Her energy, laughter, and firecracker personality were uplifting and contagious.
While her star may burn less brightly here on earth, she will forever continue to illuminate our thoughts and memories.

Our 3 kids know yours not just through De La Salle, but also through Georgian Peaks and the school ski team -- Even though they are different ages and different genders, we want you to know that Nicole was noticed and admired for her natural warmth to all who crossed her path. My daughter Laura is 4 whole years younger than Nicole, but I think Laura put it best. She said: "Mom, Nicole Houston was SO smart, SO pretty and SO kind! She would ALWAYS say hi and talk to me, and I'm only in Grade 7!" Your daughter was a lovely person with the kindest soul and our hearts are broken for your family. This is a shocking and terrible loss for our communities. We are so very sorry.

There are no words that will make any sense of this, some things are simply not right.
The fact that a broader circle won’t get to meet this wonderful young girl fits squarely within that statement.
Some of my fondest memories and are of this haze of blonde curls, knocking her way through a group of kids going after a soccer ball. It didn’t matter how big the boys or girls were who were in her way, they simply had to get out of it. The ball was her object of attention and she was going to get it.
She had a quiet confidence that didn’t ask for acceptance and didn’t offer excuses, she was who she was. That simply put was a wonderful, glowing young girl and it breaks my heart knowing she isn’t going to have the incredible impact we all knew she was going to have on the world.
She was so special and will be missed dearly.
