Obituary of Walter Bruce Thompson
WALTER BRUCE THOMPSON
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Walter at his home in Toronto on Sunday, October 9, 2016 in his 89th year. He left us peacefully of natural causes while surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his loving wife Eleanor of 47 years, his father Arthur and mother Grace, his brother Arthur and his wife Gwyneth, his sister Betty Gill and her husband Lewis, and his brother-in-law Bill McMullen and his wife Lorie. He will be remembered with love and affection by his son Walter and his children Will, Alexa and Natalie, his son Robert, daughter-in-law Anita Demas and their children Riley, Chase, Pierce and Reid, his daughter Catherine Pearson, son-in-law Brian and their children Jessica, David and Samantha, his sister-in-law Marnie Lundin and her husband Ron, twelve nieces and nephews and many friends.
A life-long native of Toronto who continued the family tradition of working in the printing industry, he was a kind soul who deeply loved and touched the hearts of many including the congregation at St. John's York Mills, his colleagues at The Tippet Foundation and the many members of The Rotary Club of Toronto where he was passionately engaged for over 60 years. His final years were joyful alongside his numerous friends and devoted caregivers at Belmont House, to whom he is grateful.
The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14th. A funeral service will be held at ST. JOHN'S YORK MILLS ANGLICAN CHURCH, 19 Don Ridge Drive, on Saturday, October 15th at 10:00 a.m. with reception to follow. If desired, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
