Obituary of Edward Lee
Edward “Ted” Lee
1930-2016
Edward “Ted” Lee of Toronto passed away peacefully at Toronto General Hospital on Sunday, September 11, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband of 55 years to Helen, and the loving and deeply loved father of Damon. He was the brother of Allen and Marguerite and an uncle to several nieces and nephews. Ted was predeceased by his parents, Peter and You Sung, and his brother Victor.
Ted was born and raised in Kingston, Ontario and attended Albert College in Belleville. As a teenager, he learned to ski in the Gatineau Hills and the Laurentians. He was proud of several backcountry ski trips to Tuckerman Ravine on Mt. Washington, and hiking trips to Mt. Marcy in the Adirondacks. He was also a keen tennis player, who competed in the Canadian junior championships in Ottawa.
After graduating from the University of Vermont with a degree in economics in 1956, Ted continued with postgraduate work at New York University. He initially worked in the securities and document imaging industries, but then rebuilt his late father’s Toronto commercial real estate investments near Bay and Dundas Streets. Ted remained happily self-employed until retirement.
Ted treasured “wonderful adventures and travel” with his family. Vermont was his second home, where he enjoyed the Green Mountains, fresh air, good food and friendly faces. Stowe was the site of annual winter and summer vacations. Ted taught Damon how to ski on the sunny slopes of Spruce Peak and the Toll Road from the top of Mt. Mansfield, and introduced him to the legendary Front Four, especially National and Liftline. Ted skied for 70 years, culminating in his last trip to Stowe in 2015. His favourite spots elsewhere in the world included St. Moritz, Val d'Isère-Tignes, Munich, Paris, New York and Montréal.
Ted spent enjoyable hours in his garage and driveway. His interests extended from 1960s American muscle cars to the latest European sports sedans. He exhaustively researched potential performance improvements, installed his own modifications and had many friends who are car enthusiasts.
The family will receive friends at ROSEDALE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 129 Mount Pleasant Road from 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 24 followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
We will always keep Ted warm in our hearts.
