Obituary of Robert Arthur Prockter
Prockter, Robert (Bob) A.
World War 2 Veteran
Passed away on Sunday September 18th, 2016 at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, at the age of 91. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years Eva Prockter. Loving father to his daughters Laurie, Beverly Jones (Bill), and his son Bruce (Patricia). Special grandfather to Michael & Jennifer. Bob was the youngest child of Herbert & Lottie Prockter. He was predeceased by his sister’s Gladys & Florence. Fondly remember by his many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.
Bob was born in 1925. He grew up in the east end of Toronto. In his youth he enjoyed playing sports such as baseball & shinny hockey.
In 1940, at the age of 15, his Dad died and Bob quit school to help support his mother. He went to work for the William Wrigley Jr Company of Canada and continued to work for Wrigley’s for 50 years before retiring in 1990.
In 1943 Bob volunteered and joined the Royal Regiment of Canada, Infantry Division. Also in 1943 Bob meet the love of his life, Eva. In June 1944 Bob left Canada to fight in Europe. During the war he was wounded twice and was lucky to survive his injuries. He returned home to Toronto in 1946.
Bob & Eva were married in 1948 and went on to raise 3 children. Bob loved to have company and along with Eva hosted many family dinners and events. He also loved playing golf and continued to play well into his eighties. He enjoyed spending his retirement time keeping busy with the family & friends, working around the house, going golfing and taking annual trips to Florida with Eva.
In 2005 Eva was diagnosed with Dementia. He was always there to love & support her throughout her illness until she passed away in 2015.
Bob was a great father, husband, grandfather & friend. He always put his family first. Bob was with it to the very end, telling us what to do, still driving, and living in his own home.
Bob will be missed by everyone who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Saturday, October 15th, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.
