It was very nice working with Buzz for about nine years. He was very nice and kind person. I feel very upset and sad about this shocking news. I was not aware of his sickness that is why it was very shocking for me.
I hope family will overcome this great loss soon though his place will never be filled.
God bless his soul.

This is a little anecdote that I think speaks to Buzz's personality and sene of humour. Gord and I were part of a theatre group largely composed of folks from Western. One evening Buzz shiowed up in a spiffy new jacket. I commented that it was a nice jacket. Buzz's eyes lit up with that twinkle he had. And his response became a joke between Gord and I ever after. " This isn't just a jacket, this is a system!" He then proceed to show us all the workings of his new jacket.
That sense of humour was always present or just under the surface. But he also could easily engage in a more serious topic.
He will be so missed by all who knew him. Our hearts and thoughts are with you Leslie and family.

Buzz was a good business friend and colleague of mine for over 25 years. In the early days we would run into each other at conventions in Europe and North America and speak briefly. As time went on these 'by chance' greetings turned into preplanned coffees, beers, and dinners. Buzz was always upbeat, positive, and happy whenever we would meet. We shared a sarcastic sense of humour and usually, when we departed, we would do so laughing at something....or at each other. Over time we developed a successful business relationship. A hand shake with Buzz was more binding than any kind of legal paperwork. Buzz was a good man....and I am a better man for having known him!

I think I was the only one in our class who never called him Buzz. To me he was Al and he was my friend for 2, too short years during our MBA. After graduation, I moved to Australia and only ever saw him one more time. A brief reunion of 5 of us at the Keg many years later. I was happy but not at all surprised to learn he had a wonderful wife, 4 great kids and a successful business. And as expected, he was humble about his own achievements, genuinely interested in everyone else and still a lot of fun! In his special way, I think he quietly showed all of us what "greatness" is. I am clearly, just one of hundreds, whose life he touched in a way I will never forget.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Yours is a family much beloved by Crescent,
and very dear to me. Buzz's enthusiasm for the boys' endeavours on our
sports pitches, in arenas and on our stage, was boundless. And what a
wonderful smile! His inspiring optimism and passion for life were clearly passed on to his wonderful children. To Shannon, with whom I worked on many shows, a special hug.

Memories of Buzz, of which there are many, all of them good; some foggier than others.
It was a dark & stormy night. It must have been a Saturday...that was the only night we got off in the MBA program.
We were venturing out. Some beer had been had. Buzz was driving...he had consumed the least or perhaps he was the only one with a car. Remember him taking exception to my using his dashboard to open a beer bottle...the marks were permanent, but we spoke of it fondly.
We had got wind of an HBA gathering. Seemed like a good idea ! Many HBA's; a few MBA's. Mingling occurred. Interactions happened. Discussions were had.
At some point in the evening there was an innocent encounter ... an MBA male, an HBA female. Some HBA's took exception. Tempers flared. Did I mention the beer ? Fisticuffs ensued. Buzz rose to the occasion. My memory is his fierce commitment to friendship & loyalty; to the clan; taking care of your own. We stood together & retreated hastily. It was a pyrrhic victory, but it was a memorable dark & stormy night.
Thank you for your strong friendship & loyalty Buzz.

Buzz and I have been working together for nearly 20 years ago as we each grew our companies to their current positions. For all those years we openly shared information that others would require a 30 page legal agreement to oversee. We never worried about it. I completely trusted Buzz in all our endeavors together. I can't think of a higher compliment to pay anyone in our food ingredient business. I'll not only miss Buzz's integrity, but also his warmth and positive energy that was with him every time I saw him.

My wife Loris and I wish to extend our deepest sympathies and best wishes to the family.
I was an inpatient at Sunnybrook from May until September 2013. Through a mutual friend Buzz and his family invited my wife to use their driveway on her daily trips to the hospital. After I was discharged this kindness was extended to me for appointments at Sunnybrook.I met Buzz one Christmas, and occasionally our paths crossed on returning from Sunnybrook. Buzz always asked if I was well and made me welcome.
We met for the last time three weeks ago. I was returning from a late appointment at the hospital and Buzz had been golfing with a friend. Even though he was clearly thin and unwell, he greeted me with warmth and good spirits. Buzz put me at ease.
I will treasure his kindness and generosity,

Dear Leslie, Dave and by extension your family:
As an impish but homesick Lower School day student who became a boarder at SJR when my parents moved from Winnipeg to Dauphin, I was privileged to have two older "brothers" on those early Grey Goose bus rides home - Dave and Buzz. I was amongst the road trip fans who, along with Leslie and the other cheerleaders, watched the senior hockey games in those country arenas. Yes he was a fine player long before pick-up hockey - glad to read here that a younger generation got to witness this first hand. In more recent times, we were reaquainted through various alum events both at SJR and here in Toronto. As I discovered in the last year or so we shared the same barber shop. Buzz always had time to spare for a chat and as others have said in this space he was one very special person. I'll miss chatting with him as I wait for a trim, but will remember and cherish his easy smile and "Hey Marcus" greeting when I next scrawl my name on the barbershop's chalkboard customer list. Rest well, Buzz and know, Leslie, Dave and family, that he's looking down with that same easy smile…

To the Grant family,
We are so sad to hear of Buzz's passing. He was a lovely man obviously well respected and loved by many. It was so wonderful that he was able to be at Lauren's wedding and we are happy that we got to spend some time with him there. Ian also said he talked with him recently at a Rosedale member/guest event. Remarkable that he was able to still carry on with his "wonderful life" with such a positive outlook. They talked about maybe seeing each other in November in the desert...still hoping for one more golf game at Jeannie and Rods.
We will be there to celebrate Buzz's life with you on Friday. May you find peace in your grieving.
