Barbara came to Canada in 1953 and quickly fell in love with the country and its great natural beauty. She had a long career in accounting at Canada Life. After retiring she pursued her many interests: photography, nature, gardening, hiking, astronomy, woodworking and her cottage. She was a keen birder and member of the Toronto Ornithological Club, a member of the Toronto Field Naturalists where she led some nature hikes and the Second Mile Club, Orchard View Branch, with whom she walked most weeks. Barbara volunteered at the Royal Ontario Museum in the Anthropology section and at the birding club. She also travelled extensively in the United States, Central & South America, Europe, Canada and the Canadian Arctic to see both birds and many of the world's natural and cultural wonders.
