Obituary of Terry Carson
TERRY ROBERT CARSON
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of a husband, a father, a grandfather, a great brother, and a best friend. Terry passed away at the young age of 63 at home on Wednesday, June 29, 2016.
He was predeceased by his father Thornton and nephew, Tal Hofstra. Left to mourn is his wife Michelle (nee Thompson), two children: Matthew (Lee) and Ryan (Robyn), one grandchild (Jake), his mother Hazel, and six siblings: Greg (Barb), Murry (Dawn), Clarke (Madeleine), Susan (Rick Morson), Carol (Al Olson) and Scott (Barb McCracken), mother and father-in-laws Dorothy and Wayne Belding and Gary Thompson as well as a great many other relatives and friends.
Born on December 7, 1952 in Red Deer, Alberta; Terry was the third of seven children born to Thornton (Bob) and Hazel. He spent his childhood in the rural setting of Penhold, Alberta. Early in his youth, he set his sights on the big city and in his later teens moved to Calgary to enjoy the action of the city. Not long after, he started the job that set his direction for the remainder of his working life.
Terry started his career as a Shipper/Helper at RCA Records in Calgary on October 26, 1970 at the age of 17. Shortly thereafter, his manager noted in his personnel file that "Terry does an excellent, efficient & speedy job … that I'm keeping him in mind for a future sales position."
Terry clearly exceeded that manager's expectations - 35 years, 13 promotions, and several mergers later, Terry moved from Sony/BMG to work with Sybersound Records out of California. Over the decades, he met and befriended many musicians and industry people and had many stories to tell of his exploits across North America. He was a salesman extraordinaire as well as an excellent mentor and great boss.
And his all-time best career move - meeting his best friend, Michelle, at BMG 24 years ago. On November 18, 2005 Terry & Michelle married, surrounded by family & friends in Las Vegas.
They continued to live happily in Toronto and enjoyed being close to Michelle's family. Terry always enjoyed having his sons, Matt & Ryan, come to experience all the adventure the big city had to offer - from concerts, Leafs and Jays games, to their many backyard barbeques - Terry was a big, loving presence in their lives.
Terry will be deeply missed, but the family feels blessed that he did not suffer and was at home with the woman he loved.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 2:30 p.m., in THE BERKELEY CHURCH, 315 Queen Street East, Toronto, with refreshments to follow.
