We were very saddened to hear about Barry's sudden passing and are sorry we couldn't make it out to express our condolences to the family in person. Although we only saw Barry sporadically over a span of many decades, we considered him family and will never forget his warm, engaging and gentle nature and will always cherish our happy memories of our times with him.

Barry was a man who touched everybody's heart that he met. He was one of the most compassionate, sweetest and lovable individuals that I had the pleasure of knowing for the past 5 years. I will always remember seeing him and Thompson come into the office at the Marina everyday without a doubt, just to say hello and to keep us updated on his life, see what's new with us... and of course to make sure Thompson got his daily treat. He will be dearly missed by so many. My heart goes out to his family. Clearly heaven needed more angels, I know you will be the Captain and guide those angels on the most beautiful sailboat Barry!

Barry was not only my brother Tom's best friend, but he became a very good friend to my entire family. He checked in on all of us and loved to have a summertime chat on the front porch. Soft-spoken, generous and kind - with that special slow-burning smile - that is how I will always remember Barry. If my mum were alive today, she would be crying along with me. My sincere and love-filled condolences go out to Jenna and Matt. I'm sure that you both share your father's exemplary characteristics. May the steadfast love of Barry's many friends and family comfort you in this time of shock and loss.

Words can never capture the depth of sadness and admiration for Barry that I want to convey. I'm still in shock as many of us are... I expect to see him either ambling or charging down the dock with Thompson... or seeing him head out in his beloved boat with a big grin. He was so happy to be on the water and would often declare how thrilled he was to be living the dream, here at Bluffers Park Marina. He was so proud of you, Jenna and Matt. For one, he was bursting with pride when Matt and friend did a wonderful, detailed and very professional job cleaning the exterior of my Floating Home to help pay for the big trip... while he became the project manager overseeing these entrepreneurs do their thing with minimal direction. Barry was one of the most authentic, thoughtful and generous persons I've had the good fortune to know. Barry, you too will not Fade Away, dear friend as you will always be in my thoughts and heart.

We find it hard to believe that our smiling, happy, adventurous and sometimes mischievous friend and neighbour is no longer with us. Barry was one of those rare people that you liked right away and his warm and generous spirit endeared him into our tight community of friends and neighbours that loved him dearly. We will keep him in our hearts forever.

Jenna and Matt, you had a very special Dad and we feel your pain at his loss keenly. We knew him for too short a time yet in that time we felt like he had taken us under his wing, as he did with everyone, and helped us become part of our community. He was generous in spirit and extraordinarily kind. Very few people in this world have a life filled with so many truly caring friends and Barry was definitely one of them. We will always remember him with Thompson on one arm and a gentle grin on his face. We wish you many happy memories to soften the loss.

BARRY Touched me and ALL my family so very much We were new to floathome community just over a year ago- he sought us out – open arms, non-judgmental, helpful and caring What made MY day was: seeing him smile and listening to his endless stories there wasn’t anyone Barry didn’t know and everyone knew Barry ….he was everyone’s BFF His last “project” was completed just a few weeks ago, and Barry was so proud to add that one to his resume (he smiled when he said that). We named it “A Boatscape Project” After the floathomers threw Barry a surprise Birthday party filled with poems and the kindest words, Barry came to my door the next day and said: “No more about me – I feel like God, and can walk on water”. We teased about that for months to come. I have to believe instead of Barry peeking his head in from our dockside door, he’ll be looking in now from the lakeside door ….walking on water Be our guardian angel Barb, Rae, Peter, Eric, Donny and Kelly

Words don't seem enough in this situation. Barry was one of the most wonderful neighbours anyone could ask for... and in our tight, connected community that's saying something. We'll remember him forever as the dear, compassionate man on NS dock who could do so many things and always shared his knowledge and skills with everyone. He brought light and laughter to so many people... and it came naturally. We're unbelievably, immeasurably saddened by this loss.

I know I speak for my colleagues from Toronto Disaster Relief Committee and Tent City that we are so saddened by the loss of our friend Barry who worked side by side with us on homelessness, helping to create better homes down on the Toronto waterfront at the Tent City site. My deepest condolences and prayers go out to family and friends, of which there were many only because you were such an amazing presence and genuine person. As I hit 50 years of age, I pondered life as most do and saw you, a few years my elder living life to the fullest, enjoying every moment and I said to myself that I want to be just like Barry. Class, genuine, true and full of life. When Barry and Jim did the Ireland trip then gave me feedback, I was in awe at there stories of living life to the fullest and more importantly, sharing with me, teaching me, the lessons of enjoying each and every moment with our friends and family and passing on this lesson to all who would listen. Well, I listened and feel privileged to have met a man of such class and humbleness that his presence in my life will always be remembered. God Bless, I know you will be missed by all who knew you! Thank you Sir! Your Chicken Wings Buddy on Thursday Nights!!!

To Barry's family, Barry and I were friends in Newfoundland long ago and I remember him fondly: his love of life, his modesty, his bemused sense of humour. He built a complex and interesting structure near Quidi Vidi, The Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Centre and bought my house in Quidi Vidi when I moved to New Brunswick. He was a wonderful person and it is sad to hear of his untimely passing. Mike Chadwick

Though we only worked on one project together I considered Barry a friend, a colleague, a mentor. The construction industry has lost a true master builder – if there was an impossible job or schedule - call Barry. We stayed in touch for over 20 years and it did not matter whether we talked once a day or once a year he always made time. You will be missed.

Barry Burnett was my friend. I feel privileged to be able to say that. While we worked together he was the consummate professional; cool and calm with the expertise to drive a project to successful completion. His greatest gift was the ability to transcend the workaday world and offer true friendship. Barry taught me a lot, not the least of which was the meaning of a true friend. I already miss you more than words can express.

Barry You were my best friend and I loved you like a brother. You were my travelling companion and drinking buddy and we laughed and laughed and laughed. You were a member of my family, loved by my wife and children, As two retired gentlemen, who worked so very hard all our lives, we talked about trying to regain the essence of our childhood by developing passions for activities that would make us truly happy. You were well on your way to achieving the goal. I wish you had known how much you were loved and respected by our community. You were so generous with your time, lending your expertise to those in need, without expecting anything in return. You were socially inquisitive, happily spending hours chatting with neighbors and strangers and reaping the rewards. Selfishly, I am gutted by your sudden passing because I can’t imagine my daily life without you in it. I’ll always remember you. Your pal, Jim

Barry, You are so going to be missed by our family here at Bluffer's Park Marina. I will miss you everyday for our walk and daily commute to the beach and all the antics that we come up with in our daily lives. You have left a very large impact on so many lives..you've left of us too soon, for what I believe to be a greater purpose. I sure as heck want to see what is up for the rest of us without you two on this earth....boy wherever you are is getting a huge asset in their arsenal of tricks. Love you and miss you greatly!!!!!
