Helena was one of the most witty mentors I had in my training at CCNM. She had a passion for teaching and was very interested and engaged in the naturopathic medical program. She was a regular attendee at the the School's Annual General Meeting where she spoke passionately about her concerns and desire for improvement in certain areas (homeopathy in particular). I'll always remember Helena for her effervescent energy, her passion for teaching and her love of her students, colleagues and her precious healing dogs who came to visit for their treats. As a student in the first Homeopathy course in the Holistic Program at Transformational Arts College over 20 years ago, I'll never forget her abundant fervor for this special healing modality. Helena was one of my favourite clinic supervisors when I was a CCNM intern. She had a wonderful way of being the most serious and light hearted - almost at the same time. Her laughter and presence - a sparkle! Several years later, I had the pleasure of working with her once again and it rekindled a deep connection. We talked a lot about life and death. The last time I saw Helena was in the hospital at East York - earlier this year. I did not know then it would be the last. Helena will certainly be missed, but I know her spirit is free and I wish her a peaceful journey to the place where she was not afraid to go - something I admired about her.

I first met Helena while she was still a student when she came to work part time at the OAND office. The profession was very small then and we had no funds for secretarial staff so Helena appeared and helped us a lot. It was this behind the scenes support that Helena gave to the naturopathic profession that helped us emerge as the strong profession we are today. Last year Helena was videoed lecturing on homeopathic first aid by The Legacy Project and this video is available for NDs to view on the OAND web site.In this video Helena's knowledge, wisdom, humour and passion for naturopathic medicine shines. Leslie and I were both cousins and friends, we have known each other since we were four in Oakville. We have continued to stay in touch regularly, for 60 years. A few years ago we had a wonderful trip to Scotland together. We saw many interesting and beautiful places as well as visited distant family relatives. She was such a kind, generous, happy and energetic person, we always had a great time together. She always wanted to be a doctor to help other people and she achieved that to great success in the Naturopathic community. Leslie will be missed by so many for her zest for life, wonderful smile and sense of humor, and her love of her family and friends. She was passionate about her career and helping others and was a caring and enthusiastic person in all she did. We have been friends since grade 7 and had many happy times and adventures together not only in high school but university as well. Despite the fact I live in Calgary we have continued to be friends and could always pick up where we left off, whenever I was in Toronto or by phone. We had many shared happy times, but lost touch after we went in different directions after high school. I preceptored with Helena a few years ago and she left a huge impression on me with her magical spirit. The warmth and knowledge that she shared with me reminded me of how effective we can be with the simplicities of our medicine. I loved every second I had to observe this amazing doctor at her craft and only wish I could have learned more. Thank you Helena for everything that you are. I offer my deepest condolences for Helena's family. Helena was my naturopath for many years. She taught and shared a lot about health and life with me. I regained my health thanks to her.
