I did not know Charles, but my mother, Esther Caplan, called me, upset, to hear about Charles' death. They were condo neighbours, at Skymark, and she said, with tears in her voice, that he was one of the sweetest, most lovely, gentle man she has known. She feels badly she is unable to visit, but says her condolences to Eva, and the "boys," and their families. I wish I had known Charles too. Thea Caplan

It is with deep regret to learn the passing of our beloved Charlie. He and Eva were like parents to us since our wedding day on December 24, 1982. We shared many beautiful moments together with Charlie, Eva and the boys. Charlie was the nicest and warmest person, a real friend, a great father and grandfather and a loving husband of Eva. Their support and love towards us was touching and inspiring. We loved them back deeply and passionately. Eva, John, Charlie and Tommy, we are with you in spirit, sharing your pain, but happy to celebrate the wonderful life of Charlie. His memory will live in our hearts for ever. Dear Tom and Family We were saddened to hear from our son Chris about the passing of your Dad. In reading his obituary, it was obvious that he was a remarkable man who faced seemingly insurmountable adversities yet triumphed over them and went on to live a successful life of purpose. You will surely miss the presence of this kind and loving father but take comfort in knowing that he will live on always through you, your siblings and his grandchildren. Dearest Charles and Stephane,
I am deeply saddened to hear of your Dad's passing, Charles. Life is so short, even at 92. The years are precious and we are here for but a moment. Cherish all the memories you have of your Dad and your times together. He was a lovely man: so outgoing, so considerate, and I always greatly enjoyed talking with him. My heart is with you and Steph and the girls as you face these difficult days, and with your Mom of course as she fathoms moving forward without her life partner. Know that my prayers, and those of Michael and our boys as well, are with you all.

The passing of “Charles” Stephen Knapp It is with a great deal of sorrow that I felt when I read about Charles. I want to extend my deepest sympathy and condolences to Eva and the family. I first met Charles when I was working for Coles. Charles was contracted to supply and install ‘Coles’ signs coast to coast. He did a marvelous job on the “World’s Biggest Bookstore” sign and the interior graphics. Everyone was super pleased with his work. Charles was “King” of the sign business. Although our relationship was mainly business, we did have some unforgettable personal times together. I found Charles to be very artistic; just give him an idea and he was quick to sketch it out. What talent! Charles was so proud of his sons. He would talk about their endeavors with enthusiasm. At times he was my confessor father, always interested in my health, wellbeing and my family. A genuine human being with a generous heart. For many Christmases, we would exchange cards. The graphics and colouring of the “Slonchka” on the envelope was amazing. We have kept all of these works of art. Once again Eva, I extend my deepest sympathy and hope that your healing process comes with comfort and strength. God bless the soul of Charles and give Charles a place in your Artistic Department in heaven.
