William Bruce Waugh
On Friday, April 8, 2016, our father, William Bruce Waugh, died surrounded by love and support at the Veterans Residence, Sunnybrook Hospital. Bill was born November 13, 1920 to much loved and loving parents Jane and Sidney Waugh. He was recently predeceased by his cherished wife of 69 years Isobel. He is dearly remembered by his children Bruce (Nicki), Marilyn (Douglas) and Gordon (Lisa); his grandchildren Jennifer (Elska), Tracy (Paul), Sandy, Geoffrey (Alexandra), Andrew and Claire; and his adored great-grandchildren Samantha, Natasha and Peter who brought him so much delight. He was predeceased by his sister Sydney Waugh in 1956.
Bill graduated from UTS with a full scholarship to Victoria College, University of Toronto. Following graduation with a degree in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry he joined the war effort and was seconded to the Royal Navy, where he served as Radar Officer on the aircraft carrier Nabob for much of the Second World War. He enjoyed a fulfilling career as an actuary with Canada Life Assurance Company, and was Chief Actuary when he retired in 1985.
Bill was a man of keen intellect, diverse interests and extensive knowledge who also loved to participate in sports and games. He was a champion tennis player and soccer player at university and later added golf, squash and bridge to his accomplishments. He and Isobel shared wonderful experiences and adventures with their diverse circles of friends. They both loved to travel and saw much of the world together.
Bill's last years were spent at Veterans Residence where he received respectful and loving care from staff on K3C led by his primary nurses Jing, Mandy and Clarissa, and supported by his wonderful volunteer Janet, music therapist Trish, and Sue with Trinket the therapy dog. We will miss Dad's wise counsel and unwavering support.
