Obituary of Kathleen Doherty

DOHERTY, Kathleen Frances (nee Gilfillan) Passed away peacefully at The Millwood, Toronto on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. Kay, in her 99th year, was born in Guelph and raised on a farm near Rockwood. She was a proud nursing graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital in Guelph. She took her first trip out of the country with her new husband Jack in 1944 to live in the hills of Honduras where Jack worked for the New York & Rosario Honduras Mining Company. On returning to Canada, Kay worked at the Henderson and Chedoke Hospitals until her retirement. Kay was the loving mother of Kaye Beeston (Paul) and David (Barbara). She was the dear grandmother of Aimee Beeston (Charles Falconer), David Beeston (Katie) and Katie Doherty and "GG" (great-grandmother) to Max and Lucy Falconer and Bobby and Jack Beeston. Kay was predeceased by her husband Jack, by her son Tom, by her parents Thomas and May (nee Flaherty) Gilfillan, by six brothers, George, Bill, Jim, Jeff, Ted and Ross, and by two sisters, Margaret and Mary. The family wishes to thank Pina and Sheila for their love, special care and kindness to Kay. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2016. A funeral mass will be celebrated in ST. ANSELM CHURCH, 1 MacNaughton Road at Millwood Road on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Private interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Anselm or the Alzheimer Society of Toronto in Kay's memory would be gratefully received.
