I only got to meet him and sit with him briefly. I was filing some stuff and helping close his practise. He was getting rid of some books and he said he heard I picked his favourite one. That made me smile. We sat together for an hour or so on two separate occasions and I volunteered to take him to his meeting. Sadly it wasn’t meant to be. Everyone thinks of you fondly, and you are missed by many.

John was a great neighbour, who always had a kind word for everyone he met in the building. We greatly appreciated his thoughts and views at the Avoca Civics meetings, which he attended often. His smile and gentle spirit will be missed. Our condolences to the family, and may the happy memories sustain you in this time of loss.

I met John and Audrey at 38 Avoca where I lived for a while. We tend to be a little suspicious of lawyers but John was the exception. I always felt I could trust and depend on him to do the best for me. He was a kind, compassionate man and when I was going through a nasty and difficult divorce he wrote letters for me and never charged me a cent. That was the kind of man he was. When I remarried 5 years ago he came to our wedding. He was my lawyer when I sold my condo and did the wills for both my husband and myself. I will always remember him for his kindness and gentleness.
My sincere condolences to his family.

It was a privilege for me to know him through the Order of Saint Lazarus and 38 Avoca. I hope that the many memories of the happy times that you shared with him will be a comfort to you during this difficult period. My deepest sympathy goes out to you and the rest of the family.

Our sincere condolences to your family! We are so sorry for your loss. Losing someone in death is such a sad time. We lost mom recently. We want to share some scriptures that give us the assurance that we will see her again. “Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." John 5: 28, 29. Isaiah 11:6-9 tells of a future where children will play with wild animals... "and no harm will come to them... right here on earth." No more sickness or death. My sincere condolences to John's immediate family. He was a good man and lived a very honorable life. I had the pleasure of enjoying a visit with John in his home just over a month ago and his mind was as sharp as ever. May he rest in peace with family who have gone before him and may his memories give comfort and strength to all who knew him.

Both of us knew John as a fellow student at Trinity College (5T1) and have met again and again over the years, especially at College Reunions. Always good to talk with John who was a great listener and had a sense of humour. I, John, have known John since our High School days at Lawrence Park C.I. Phoned him just about a month ago and had one of our long chats. I remember John, whom we called "JL| at College, as a sincere friend, ready to help when ever needed. Condolences to his family for their loss of his presence but joy for a life usefully and well-lived. John & Gayle Smallbridge
