My sincere condolences to the entire Ritchie family. It is difficult to lose a business legend and a devoted family man. Cedric was on the board of Mercedes-Benz Canada for many years. My late husband, Rainer M. Lange-Mechlen was the MBC President so I was occasionally able to personally enjoy Cedric's humour, his business acumen, and on business/social occasions, share a scotch. Cedric was a true banking entrepreneur, long term thinker, in the early days of creating today's corporate world. Cedric worked hard, was always ethical, and a joy to just be around. I grew up with Kim and Heather, near the Ritchies in Don Mills. As a youngster, I knew that "Mr. Ritchie" had a very important job, but I didn't quite understand it. From my perspective, he was just Kim and Heather's dad, a wonderful man who always had time for his girls. He was always there for their birthdays despite his world wide travels. He loved those girls so very much and it showed when he celebrated their birthdays and other athletic endeavors. In particular, I remember one of Kim's Birthday's when we were all treated to a trip to Center Island. Mr. Ritchie was there and laughed at all of us girls having fun. On Kim's Birthday, he had a ritual of making me sit on his lap and giving him a kiss. At 10 years old, I thought this was kind of weird, but in retrospect, I wish I got to do it just one more time....With deepest condolences, Alison.

My brother, Tom and I met Mr.Ritchie on a few occasions when we were invited to a bank lunch back in the 60's. We were clients of the Richmond Hill branch, then under the leadership of Cam Smith. Our enterprise, Pickseed was and remains a 65+ year client of Scotiabank. Mr. Ritchie and his lunching group were always welcoming and made us feel at ease in this prestigious company. Our last meeting was on the occasion of CamSmith 's retirement when we had the privilege of being seated with him as well as the Magna folks. Made us feel respected. He helped build and develop a great institution , one with which we hold in respect. Martin C. Pick

Barb and Family. We share your sorrow at the passing of Cedric. His devotion to his family over and above his busy life was heartwarming. The Ritchie Report was always informative and brought us all up to date, a link with you and all of Cedric's accomplishments. He had a very busy and active life, one that was full of major achievements that brought him the admiration and respect of all who knew him. His perseverance and keen interest in maintaining his connection to the business world is an inspiration to us all, especially since the loss of his vision. Barb, you and Cedric, were very fortunate to have had 52 years together. We know his loss will be a big adjustment for you and your family, so please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you, especially during this very difficult time. In the wintertime of our emotions, the warmth of our memories brings springtime to our hearts and soul. Rob and Sharon.

Please accept my sincere condolences at Mr. Ritchie's passing. I got to know him very briefly when we were in London together at the signing of the $1.25 billion Hydro Quebec deal in January, 1978. I was a rookie with the Bank of Montreal and of course Mr. Ritchie was CEO of BNS. I am writing because I will never forget the kindness and respect he showed me as junior at the time, all of 23 years old. We had such great conversations and fun during those heady days. He treated me as a peer--two bankers getting a job done never making me feel inferior or just one of the "little people". I saw him several times after that in Toronto and New York and we always laughed about that closing dinner with the group taking in the show at some club in SoHo. We laughed at what a front page picture on the Globe and Mail it would have made to have the chairmen of 3 of Canada's chartered banks, the Quebec Finance Minister and the CEO of Hydro Quebec taking in the show. He was a wonderful guy: kind, considerate, smart and lots of fun. We will all miss him. With sincere sympathy, Michael Adams

Dear Barbara, Heather, Kim and the family, We were so sad to read Heather's email to Pam and Harry informing us of the sudden passing of Cedric. He spoke so lovingly of his wonderful family and how much he enjoyed spending holiday time with them and other occasions to celebrate their many accomplishments. He found time for everyone and the cherished memories will stay in your hearts forever. The Ritchie Report has kept us to date with the family; we felt part of your many travels worldwide and always looked forward to the next meeting of the Board. We send our love and prayers at this time, Dallas and Jane
