It is with heavy hearts that we have heard of Adelaide's passing. We had been neighbours for over 20 years. She was an integral part of our life in the neighbourhood - we exchanged the daily comments on life, the weather, the cats... Her Christmas cookies were eagerly anticipated and enjoyed as were her Halloween treats. Her spirit will be an inspiration to all of us. A life well lived but our life on the front porch will never be the same again!

A trip to Toronto was not complete without a visit to Adelaide. I enjoyed talking to her about flowers, baking and of course, jewelry. Her love of fashion was inspirational. Her sense of humour - unforgettable. Who can forget her sneak attacks during the Easter egg knocking contests! I was lucky to have known her. I will miss her.

Where Did She Go?
Where did she go? My loving mother?
One moment she was here, and then no longer.
Is she still 'round me? with me? watching?
Can she still hear me? talking? sobbing?
I can't feel her presence, her arms around me.
There are no words of comfort, not even dreams to console me.
The world feels so empty, lonely and foreign.
Her voice, it is fading, the quiet is deafening.
No matter life's hardships, she was here to guide me.
My confidant, companion, rock and advisor.
Without her I'm flailing, no compass, no guide.
To whom shall I turn, who'll be on my side?
I go through the motions, my daily tasks,
I smile and I nod, but I'm wearing a mask.
Each day is routine, I'm playing my part,
But I'm running on auto, there's no joy in my heart.
She was just a traveler, with suitcase in hand,
Passing through all our lives, from a far away land.
She was not mine, she was just on loan,
When her time here was done, she returned to her home.
Our lives must have meaning, a reason for being,
We have tasks to fulfill, with time that is fleeting.
And when my job's done, and I've completed my role,
With suitcase in hand, I too will go home.

Adelaide has been a part of my life for a long time. All through good times and the not so good times, always a shoulder to lean on. We worked so well through the Peetri Kiriku Pühapäevakool for 17 years and then through Lasteaed for over 5 years. I will miss her.....
