Obituary of Dalton Waller
DALTON MCFARLANE WALLER
We are saddened to announce that Dalton McFarlane Waller, 94, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on the evening of Saturday, March 5, 2016 in Toronto.
Born in Toronto on February 2, 1922, Dalton was the son of Stanley and Mary Elizabeth (McCutcheon) Waller of Toronto. He is survived by his wife of 70 years of marriage, Margaret (Peggy) of Toronto and his three sons: Grant of Lakefield, Garfield (Carolyn) of Toronto, and Andrew (Karen) of Oakville. He was the proud grandfather of Christine and Katherine of Toronto, and Alexandra and Bradley of Oakville.
He attended and graduated Queen's University and served in World War II with the Royal Canadian Navy as a Lieutenant on active duty in the North Atlantic.
Dalton was well known and respected in the hospitality industry as President of the Travel Industry Association in Canada, the Canadian Restaurant Association, and the Convention & Tourist Bureau of Metro Toronto.
Continuing the family business, Dalton became the President of Walfoods Limited and Dalmar Foods Limited. The business grew to become one of Canada's leading privately owned food service management companies.
He enjoyed leisure time with family and friends in Toronto, the Kawarthas, and Florida. He was a member of the Badminton and Racquet Club, Rosedale Golf Club, The National Club in Toronto, and Delray Beach Club of Florida.
Although we are grieving our loss and feeling an incredible absence from our lives, we are so grateful for the many cherished memories that we will hold dear forever. He was the patriarch of the Waller family and he led by example as the kindest and most honourable man as a husband, as a father, grandfather and as a friend. He lived a rich and fulfilling life, and was always quick with a smile, a handshake, a witty remark, or a great story.
He was the most eternally positive and gentle man anyone could hope to know. Our grief is only outmatched by our love for him.
A private family service will be held at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue). In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or The Arthritis Society. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
