My memories of Barbara will be firstly, her smile. With few exceptions (and no matter what her physical ailments) she always enter a room with a huge and cheery smile on her face. One could not help but want to greet her.
And while she might have been considered a quiet person she was not shy. She always engaged in conversation. She was a woman of conviction, as well. If she took issue with something she was never rude or pushy but instead waited for an opportune moment to infuse her position which she held to strongly. That would be when we saw her smile disappear and her forehead would wrinkle in disapproval. That would be when we saw "grumpy" Barbara. She did not like discord but she never held a grudge, either.
And despite all the challenges that life threw at her she never let it get her down. On the occasions when Jacqueline would visit the Co-op as far as Barbara was concerned she was part of the community so we embraced her visits too.
I admired her spunk. She never stopped learning right up to the end.
By leaving us so soon she has created a vacuum that will never be filled. God bless.

Lise and Ted; What a nice tribute to Barbara. She was a diehard member of Kerry's Place turning up at the AGMs whenever she could. Jackie will miss her a lot. Many of the original members have passed on and I know of four other clients who have lost both parents. A key reason for the founding of Kerry's Place was to address the concern of who would look after our children after we are gone. Jackie seems happy at her home on Malamute. We are lucky that the house mates are not disruptive-certainly as compared to some of the other houses. We are working with other agencies to find solutions for clients who deteriorate as they grow older and need nursing care. Autism is a life-long journey. Sincere condolences in this stressful time Bob and Nancy

Barbara and I became friends at the co-op. She was Board Secretary and helped me with her advice and experience when I took over that position. She had a wonderful eye for colour and composition, and her watercolours were often part of our members' art shows in the lounge. Generous in spirit, she was planning a regular Wednesday tea in the lounge and was hoping to get people together for a book club. Sadly, Barbara passed away before these ideas could materialize, and she never got to enjoy them.

Barbara's light shone on the life of so many. We had warm times together in watercolour class, at The Academy for Lifelong Learning, and at SKHC. We shared tales of life in Montreal and of summers in Maine. I will miss Barbara, as will so many from her vast network.

We will not only miss Barbara presence but her warm sense of humour,
where she shared many jokes with the Co-op's Newsletter.
