Obituary of Dorothy Olive Sannes

DOROTHY O. SANNES (NEE: JACKSON) Dorothy passed peacefully on Saturday, February 13, 2016 after weeks of decline following fifteen years of steadily worsening dementia. She deserved a much fuller life and a better end. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, David, and was predeceased by her parents, William Jackson and Jean Knox (Workman) Jackson. Dorothy was born in Toronto and lived all but three years of her life in this city. Between the ages of seven and ten, she and her Mother lived in Northern Ireland where her parents were born and had lived their early lives before emigration to Canada (c. 1929). This time in Northern Ireland was always special for Dorothy and she reflected upon it often. Dorothy was always strongly independent. After early years working at various jobs, she settled into a career as a receptionist/secretary for companies involved in financing for mining companies and in mineral exploration and mining. This was work she enjoyed; and through it, she was able to meet and get to know many of the important and unusual characters responsible for development of the Canadian mining industry during the last half of the 20th century. After retiring in 1983, she enjoyed staying at home and caring for our home and her gardens, and loving her pets. Over the years, she cared for several ailing friends and neighbors. Dorothy showed her independence by taking care of everything while I was away on extended projects, often for weeks or months at a time. She even selected and bought our home during one of these periods. Whenever I was home, we were always together in everything we did; shopping entertainment, visiting, anything. Dorothy was beautiful and had a lively spirit. I will miss her forever. There will be no formal memorial ceremony now. In the spring, an informal gathering will be arranged for those who wish to celebrate her life. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
