Obituary of William Farmer
William (Bill) L. F. Farmer
Passed away peacefully at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Cambridge, Ontario on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the age of 88. Beloved husband of 54 years to Joan (2003). Fondly and lovingly remembered by his two sons, Stephen (Cathy) and Rick (Marilyn), his four grandchildren, Shayna, Erin, Nathan and Lauren, and three great-grandchildren, Lucan, Ava and Bethan. As the youngest of seven, he was predeceased by parents, Earnest and Daisy; and siblings Bert and Walter, Doris, Edna, Daisy and Esther. Bill was born in Toronto (1927) and had a successful career as a Sales Representative for, most notably, K&E Surveying and Drawing Equipment and EKCO products. In 1967 the family moved to Huntsville, Ontario to own and successfully run the Raymor Motel. Bill was quite active in the community as a member of the Huntsville Rotary Club, becoming President in 1987. Through his love of entertaining others and his great voice, he was always dedicated in some active capacity to all the Rotary Clubs yearly musical productions of the time. Either behind the scenes with production, starring in and/or supporting roles, he entertained the local patrons with many years of good, quality entertainment. Bill was truly honoured by his fellow Rotarians in receiving the International "Paul Harris Fellowship" Award for all his dedication and efforts. He was a frontrunner, along with many other local talents, of the original "Muskoka Players," The Barbershop Quartet, and was a founding member of "Doc Sargents" Muskoka Big Band, who entertained throughout the region for many years. He remained active, performing yearly festive concerts for the local Canadian Legion and Senior area residences. Bill was also, for many years, a dedicated member of the "Trinity United Church Choir," Huntsville. In 2012, Bill took up residence in Ayr, Ontario (Waterloo Region) to be closer to family. He continued to entertain others with the "Old Standards" and his trusty banjo every Thursday night. Throughout his life he was truly blessed with many great caring friends and acquaintances. A memorial celebration of life will be held at the Humphrey Funeral Home in the Rosedale and Leaside Rooms on Saturday, April 30 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. If desired, memorial donations to the Canadian Alzheimer's Foundation would be appreciated.
