Mary and David Lacey posted a condolence
Friday, February 5, 2016
Dear Tapscott Cousins, Thank you Kathy for your telephone message. Sorry we were not here to receive it in person. You have all been in our thoughts and prayers. Your Mum and Dad were an integral part of my (David) life, especially in my early years at Fenelon Falls. The past 10-days have given me lots of time to reflect on Tapscott times together - not only with your Mum and Dad, but with your Grandparents Tapscott, Carl, Kathryn, Freda, Charles, and Aunt Lottie. Oh, and I shouldn't forget the times with Donnie (I believe you called him Don Don) when he was a toddler and just learning to talk, and with Davey who was just learning to crawl. The last time I talked with your Mum was last summer. We had a good chat. I did not know she had cancer. Her Christmas card from this past Christmas is now of particular significance. And the last time I saw your Dad was 16-years ago when we were honoured to have dinner and spend the night with them. (It was at this time we were re-aquainted Don Don, met the rest of his family, and also met Kathy and Emma. Thank you. I could go on, but will restrain myself. I do not want to lose contact with you, but now that your Mum and Dad have both gone there is a real chance of that happening. The only contact I have is the house phone number. If you are agreeable could you forward contact information. Thanks. Again, our thoughts and prayers are with you - some of you we know, others are just meaningful names - but you are all family, and that is important, especially because of our common Hewlett ancestry. (Did you know that you are 2nd cousins to both Mary and myself? Mary was 'Mary Tapscott' before she became Mary Lacey.) Our love to all. Mary and David.

Kathy and all your family, I was so happy to be able to share a hug with Mary in the past year. She was always the same , a lovely sensitive lady that I admired so much. She will walk with all of us in our memories. Muriel Sinclair ( Orillia neighbour)

I was fortunate to meet Mary during the last five years many times at the bridge table. She totally impressed me, not only with her ability, but with her graciousness. It was always a pleasure to be either her partner or her opponent. I will miss her.

Don, Cathy, Bill, Bob and families - For us, one of the best things about getting to know you over the years was having the good fortune to develop a modest friendship with your mom, Mary. Her warmth, enthusiasm, clarity and values were truly special, a beacon that will endure. We know you will miss her deeply. We are out of the country, actually in a remote part of Yucatan - so won't be able to attend today. Our love to everyone. David & Tracey

Dearest Kathy. Please accept for yourself, your family and all who mourn with you, our heartfelt sympathy. Your mother was an inspirational, loving, sympathetic and noble role model for those of us that grew up with you at Geneva Park. Her cheerful, musical spirit will always be palpable from the swim dock to Copeland Hall. God bless you and your family.

I was privileged to know Mary through CFUW Leaside-East York where she was always involved and interested, especially in the scholarship program but also with insight into general programs and a delightful addition to the gourmet group. I hope the love of each other and those close to you help bring healing and strength. With sincere sympathy, Joan Shute

Dear Kathy and Don, and all the family, Word of you Mom’s passing just reached me here in Colorado. I selfishly admit that my first reaction was of my own sorrow. Of our parents’ generation, she was the one with whom I had by far the most in common. Right up until our last visit [August 2014?], I sought her out and enjoyed our conversations together. I shall miss her. There was no more level-headed advocate for social awareness and change. She should have been the Prime Minister. Which she was of the Tapscott family. In all of you, she leaves a legacy of which she was rightfully proud. In our mobile, digital, increasingly-global world, “Family” is a challenged configuration. We are so fortunate to have had parents that swam against that tide. Much love, Steve

I send my condolences and best wishes to Mary's family and friends. I was lucky enough to know Mary through bridge, and liked and admired her so much. She was a real lady, always elegantly dressed and charming to speak to. She handled her illness with real class, but I am happy she is now at peace. A very special lady, who will be missed.

Dear Don, Ana, Nikki and Alex - please accept my sincere condolences. Mrs. Tapscott had such radiant presence, kindness and peace about her that one could only rejoice in meeting her. Thank you for that experience. Wishing you peace and may you cherish the good memories.

Don, my condolences to you and your family on the loss of your Mum. For those of us who were not privileged to know her the obituary the family has shared has given us a fine glimpse of a wonderful woman. She must have been so very proud of you, Anna, your siblings and her grandkids. May all your memories sustain you through your sadness and help you celebrate her love and a life well lived.

Sincere condolences to Mary's family and to all those others mourning her passing. Mary was a true lady. Anyone who came to know Mary can't help but think Mary was a special, special person. I knew Mary only during the last three years of her life: I played many duplicate bridge hands against her, and a few times was fortunate enough to be one of her duplicate bridge partners. Her unfailingly pleasant and friendly nature made her someone who will be very, very much missed. Here's to you, Mary. It was a pleasure getting to know you.
