Eva and Doug White posted a condolence

Dearest Peter and Martin and family I sat down with Eva on the weekend when I was in Toronto and we talked of the service and our memories if your mother. Eva couldn't remember a slide show but enjoyed the service and also meeting up with you and some of her old friends. Eva's most vivid memory of Lotti is the time she and your mother drove west with some friends and your mum broke her leg during a hike up Johnson's Canyon in Banff Park, was carried out on a stretcher and had to fly back to Toronto, missing the rest of the adventure to Vancouver. As for myself, my memories of your mum center around the many fabulous Christmas dinners she created over the years, served in her meticulously maintained house to her friends 'the German Gang'. She is the central figure in my Christmas memories. Beautiful, vivaceous, welcoming and oh so competent. I just loved it! Lotti, Eva and I spent a couple tea times together this past year at her residence on Davisville. We all enjoyed each other's company but it was plain to see that your mum was suffering life, no longer her bubbly, bouyant self, preparing to move on. We miss her very much, a cherished friend is gone; but know she is in a better, happier place. Our love and best wishes to you all. Eva and Doug White

Peter and Martin,
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. She was a force and she will be missed. The memories of growing up in Etobicoke and her whipping the two of you in to shape are many and fond. She might have ruled with an iron fist but it was always, always with the goal of making the two of you the best you could be. In that she was wildly successful.
I am ever so grateful that I had a chance to visit her at Sunnybrook two weeks ago - she awoke and looked at me - when I mentioned Peter a smile came to her face - she was immensely proud of the great success the two of you have achieved!
With our deepest sympathy, Kevin and Sonny

Lotti, our paths crossed due to unfortunate circumstances but I will always remember your elegance and how proudly you spoke of your family. I've thought of you often since I moved from Toronto and recall the stories you told of the neighbourhood and your life with much fondness.

I first met Lotti when was was 12 years old on a family trip to Toronto. I still remember her smile and genuine happiness in greeting and welcoming our family into Fritz and her home. Lotti and Fritz graciously, insistently and kindly invited me to their home for MANY Sunday family dinners after I moved to Toronto in 1990. The conversation was great and the meals were delicious! (We ALWAYS had dessert!)

Peter and Martin, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. She was a force and she will be missed. The memories of growing up in Etobicoke and her whipping the two of you in to shape are many and fond. She might have ruled with an iron fist but it was always, always with the goal of making the two of you the best you could be. In that she was wildly successful. Of course, I will never, ever forget the most classic Lotte moment ever – in fact the most classic parent moment of our youth – standing in front of your house, me picking Pete up to go partying and her on the front walk yelling to Peter – “Peter, how do you expect to be successful when you are always drunk?” I am ever so grateful that I had a chance to visit her at Sunnybrook last week – she awoke and looked at me – when I mentioned Peter a smile came to her face – although she would seldom admit it, she was immensely proud of the great success the two of you have achieved! It is with sadness that I will not be able to attend the services – the journey from Vietnam would be too long – you will be in my thoughts and prayers over the next days and weeks. If you do require some quiet time to grieve, our house in Vietnam is ready. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help in this tough time. With sympathy, Kevin

Dear Oma,
Simply put, you were always a very wonderful grandmother to us. The times we visited you were filled with loving praise or interesting advice. You always showed us how proud of us you were, and we were very proud of you too. You fought through so much and you were so strong and positive through it all. Even though sometimes you couldn't even stand, you would offer us cookies or chocolates and make us feel comfortable. These, and countless other examples, just go to show how great of a grandmother you were. You were always thinking of us, and now, we will always be thinking of you. We love you and miss you greatly, but we will think of you watching over us, giving us some of your honest advice or loving praise, and we will strive everyday to continue to make you proud. We feel at ease because we know that you are at peace now, surrounded by the thoughts and prayers of all your loved ones. So thank you, Oma, for all of your wisdom, love, and kindness. We will never forget you.
- Love, Max and Ella

On behalf of all of the Atkinsons I would like to extend our sympathies on Lotti's passing. We hope that the release from her suffering now holds comfort for you Peter and Martin, as she is free now. We send prayers of love and healing to you both. Lotti was a strong and determined woman, her life path challenging and yet she presevered, there is great respect in that. She never gave up in life and she now bestows this to her children and grand children - her legacy. She was loved and we will always remember her funny wit and zest for life.
We are thinking of you Peter at this time and send you all our love as you go through this transition time. We are all here for you if you need anything or just a conversation.
Much love,
Linda, Paul, John, Karin, David, Allayne, Robert, all the Atkinson "kids" and Tyler and Connor, of course.

From the first time we met, Lotti made me feel very welcome. She has always been a big support to Peter and I. I have always admired how outspoken and open minded she was - these two qualities made for some entertaining family dinners! We had many great conversations and I was always amazed by her wealth of knowledge.
My entire family loved Lotti and we will miss her very much.
