Obituary of Betty Anne Chapman

Betty Anne Chapman (nee Begg) We announce with great sadness the passing of Betty Anne on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, in Toronto, after a long struggle with ALS. Wife of Robert and beloved mother of James Chapman, Kate and Al Curnow and Margot and Hugh Macdonnell. Loving "Grandy" to her six grandchildren Madeline and Riley Curnow and Betsy, James, Charlie and Teddy Macdonnell. Youngest daughter of the late Helen and Lynwood Begg of St. Thomas, Ontario and sister to Helen, Dora, Frances, Donna, John and Robert. Always elegant, Betty Anne lived a full and happy life. Hers was a life of activity and energy: she made a lovely home, taught school and excelled at any sport she tried. She was an avid golfer and tennis player and a beautiful skier (despite her preference for warmer climates). We will miss her guidance and irreverent humour. Her life revolved around her children and her grandchildren. It seemed that she was born to be a grandmother. We are blessed that she had the opportunity to love, inspire and spoil her grandchildren over the last fourteen years. She battled ALS for seventeen years. An extremely private person, she did not dwell on it publicly and used her steely resolve and energy to delay her symptoms. Thank you to her loyal friends whose emails made her smile through the fight. Thank you also to her caregivers: Ruby, Widad, Zahra and Ana for your kind and loving care. Please, no flowers; instead a contribution to the Belmont House Palliative Care Unit (www.belmonthouse.com) or to ALS-TDI (www.als.net) would be appreciated. A private family service will be held at a later time.
