Obituary of Vera Booth

VERA BOOTH (GELSTHORPE) June 23, 1922 - November 16, 2013 RAF WAAF Corporal (Radar Operator) Loving wife and best friend for over 64 years of the late Bill. Beloved mother of Virginia (Ray), Susan (Ian, deceased), Jeanette (Trevor), William (Mary) and Barbara (Mark). Proud Nana of 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Born in Newark-on-Trent, England, Vera proudly served as a Radar Operator during WW2 where she met and married her sweetheart in 1942. She came to Canada in 1945 as a war bride ahead of Bill. They resided first in Leaside then settled in Don Mills, where she and Bill raised their children. She became first mate of their antique boat, Saeeda and a member of the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron for many years earning 54 merit marks. They liked train travel, crossing Canada many times. In her later years, after gardening in her backyard, enjoying a glass of wine on the patio would complete her day. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Vera's personal support workers who provided loving care in her home. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20. A service will be held in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 21. Interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. If desired, donations may be forwarded to The Salvation Army, 2 Overlea Boulevard, Toronto, Ontario M4H 1P4. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com. There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.
