Obituary of Helen Sturch

Helen Sturch (née Noble) August 16, 1924 - September 21, 2013 Beloved wife of Frederick Arthur Sturch (deceased), mother of Kenneth Frank Sturch (deceased), and daughter Erin Louise Shim and her partner Anne E. DeChant. Dearly loved sister of Marjorie Houghton of Hope, British Columbia and Kenneth Noble of Mississauga, Ontario and predeceased by brother Leslie Noble. Born in Baltimore, Ontario, raised in Niagara Falls, settling in Oshawa-Whitby, and later alternating homes between Bolsover and Etobicoke, Ontario. Academically gifted, and an avid reader, Helen was awarded honours throughout her school years and retained a keen interest in learning all her life. Generous with her time, Helen was a Cub Scout Leader, during which she met her husband, Fred. She volunteered many years as a swim instructor, examiner, and director of a swim programme for children with learning disabilities. Campaign manager during Fred's years in public office, both she and Fred retained a lifelong interest in politics, supporting their local MPs, and keeping an active membership in the Council of Canadians. A gracious, welcoming hostess with impeccable taste, Helen, along with Fred, enjoyed close relationships with family and friends, over the years hosting many dances, parties, and summer get-togethers at their home in Bolsover. Always social, easily making acquaintances, Helen could discourse on any subject, often with a wry sense of humour, and often drawing on experience gained from extensive travel. Helen's vibrant, adventurous personality was never tamed - her always present love of life will be fondly remembered. She will be profoundly missed. Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Thursday, September 26 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army, Yonge Street Mission, or Covenant House would be welcomed.
