Obituary of Barbara Gates

Barbara Joanne Gates, nee Reilly July 30, 1944 - September 11, 2013 Survived by her loving husband John (Jack), her daughter Andrea and her husband Mark Heazle, son Michael and his wife Anna Patterson, and four wonderful grandchildren on whom she doted, Gregory, Jonathan, Laura and Cameron. She will be missed by her "seesstor" Sue Keenan and her husband Gord, sisters-in-law Nancy Reilly and Kathy Hardy, along with cousins, nieces and nephews. Barbara grew up in Leaside, graduated from Northern Secondary School and attended York University where she and John met. She worked for Metro Toronto Social Services for many years and then enjoyed her retirement traveling, curling, reading and golfing, and spending time with the family at the summer cottage. She will be missed by her many friends. She loved music and theatre, she loved to swim, and enjoyed long walks with her Sheltie, Whinnie. Barbara had a calm demeanor, a positive attitude and a remarkable enthusiasm for life. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Brenda Reilly and her brother John B. Reilly. She was a very special wife, mother, grandmother and friend and we all miss her so much. A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at the THORNHILL GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB on Sunday, October 6 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Children's Wish Foundation would be appreciated.
