Obituary of David Alan John Nugent
David Alan John Nugent
Suddenly on Monday, September 2, 2013, of complications following heart surgery. Loving husband of Catherine, devoted father of Maxine (Kiomars) Dabbagh, Justin (Samantha), and Johnathon. Dear granddad of Cyrus Dabbagh and Zachary Nugent. Also mourned by his brothers Anthony, Robert (Marion), Keith and Kenneth (Rita). Predeceased by his brothers Patrick and John. He will be remembered fondly and with great affection by his many nieces and nephews.
David lived large. He was an avid skier, a keen sailor, a good golfer, a 'bon vivant', a great raconteur and, to all who knew him, a gentleman. Aside from his family, who were his pride and joy, David was proud of his many accomplishments in life. He served with the British Airborne division and later with the Special Forces. In his business life, David was recognized and celebrated as a legend in the field of fragrance and cosmetics, helping to create several outstanding fragrances under his own license. David preferred to dwell on life's pleasures, rather than life's pains. Friends who knew him well, have said that David Nugent defined a whole era in Toronto, and, that here was a man who knew how to 'carpe diem'. He will be missed. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 8. Service will be held in ST. JAMES' CATHEDRAL, 65 Church Street on Monday, September 9 at 3:00 p.m. If desired, donations may be made to Bridgepoint Active Healthcare (bridgepointlivebetter.ca) or to a charity of your choice.
