Obituary of Dolores Quance
Dolores Quance (nee Cordero)
We are saddened to announce the passing of our beautiful wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. Dolores passed away peacefully in her sixtieth year at Sunnybrook Hospital on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 in the presence of her family after a long and valiant struggle. She is survived by her loving husband Brian Murray, her adoring sons Ricky and Danny (and their father Rick Quance), her mother Pat Cordero, sisters Laura Pearson and Lisa Antonioli (Mark), brothers Bud Cordero (Tammy) and Ralph Cordero (Carolyn), stepson Richard Murray, Purcie her cat, who she loved, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister Elena and father Oscar.
Dolores was born in 1954 in Amityville, New York and spent most of her youthful days in Miami where the family moved when she was two years old. She then moved to the Big Apple when she was 17 to work and continue her studies. After several years in New York, a life she lived to the fullest as only a young beautiful woman could, she then returned to Miami when she was 25 and worked for several years as a flight attendant as well as attending the occasional party. Then, in 1983 she was charmed by a young lawyer into moving to Canada and it was in Toronto that she and Rick had their two sons, Ricky and Danny, the great joy of Dolores' life. A few years later, she met Brian and they settled into the current home in Leaside where she raised the three boys, including stepson Richard. Over the years Dolores and Brian were able to travel frequently and there are many great memories that will linger for a long time.
Dolores, with her fabulous smile, was always one to lighten up a room and heads would turn when she appeared, but in spite of that, her most endearing features were her strong sense of family, her compassion and concern for others and her openness in helping many of her children's friends. She was like a second mother to many and her house always had an open door policy. She loved nothing better than to entertain the kids and as many of their friends as possible, including their families, either at the cottage or at the ski chalet.
Florida always remained Dolores' favourite place in the world, but she did enjoy the cottage in Georgian Bay, although the water was too cold for swimming. She also loved the chalet in Collingwood and her many friends there. For the record, she did own a ski suit and ski equipment but clearly she preferred her time by the fireplace. Her other favourite warm spot was Cat Island in the Bahamas and she treasured her friendship with Pam and Tony who were always supportive.
The family would like to thank the many friends who helped out and visited with Dolores over the past eight months and showered her with love and affection and whatever else she wanted. Her charm was irresistible. In addition, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Sunnybrook for the quality care they provided.
In accordance with Dolores' wishes, cremation has already taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date in Florida.
The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) to pay their respects on Wednesday, August 14 from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Toronto Humane Society, 11 River Street, Toronto M5A 4C2 or to a charity of your choice.
