Obituary of Patricia Giffin
Patricia Rose Isabel Giffin (nee Hamilton)
April 2, 1925 - July 30, 2013
Pat was born in Humberstone Village, Niagara, Ontario, and survived two loving husbands, Garnet McCandless (1956) and Donald P. Giffin (1992). She will be missed by her family: Sharon (Alan) in Winnipeg, Chris (Linda) in Scarborough, Don (Cheryl) in Michigan, Philip (Jane) in Montreal, Grant (Karen) in Mississauga, Tom (Jackie) in Schomberg, Bill (Mary) in Toronto; her sister Mary Ellen "Bobs" (Jim) Sharman in Myrtle Beach; fourteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Pat graduated from McMaster University, and later from Teacher's College, just prior to meeting Don. She lived many years of her life in Port Credit, and then Toronto, with vigour and enthusiasm. A frustrated athlete, she instilled her love for golf in all of hers sons while playing at the Mississaugua G&C Club and the Ladies' Golf Club of Toronto. She also enjoyed many years of curling in Mississauga and Toronto. She was passionate about playing duplicate bridge with her friends at the Granite Club and was often recognized in the newspaper for her successes. She was an avid reader of books and a Turner Classic Movie buff, but she would have been equally as happy accompanying the family fishing or enjoying her garden on her properties in Muskoka and in Spanish Wells in the Bahamas. She was the quiet-but-strong support for Don as owner of Giffin Sheet Metals Limited, President of the Toronto Construction Association, Canadian Construction Association and as a long time Director of Maple Leaf Gardens and, for a short tenure, as President of the Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey Club. The family extends their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to her wonderful caregivers, Rose, Bena and Barley, who provided her with wonderful care, companionship and support, right up to the end. Pat passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, July 30th. A celebration of Pat's life will be held on Tuesday, August 13th in the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please support the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario in Pat's memory. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
