Obituary of Catharine Veres
CATHARINE VERES (NEE TAYLOR)
March 11, 1968 - April 24, 2013
Daughter of Dr. William H. Taylor and the late Jane Catherine Hewitt Taylor. Passed away with her loving husband at her side after a long and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 45. Cathy was born in Toronto where she lived most of her life, attending Victoria Park Collegiate and Bishop Strachan School, leaving to attend the University of Western Ontario in London. Cathy will be remembered first and foremost for her incredible love and devotion to her husband Denis and their three children, Taylor, Sydney and Ryan, who will all miss her terribly. She grew up splitting her summers between canoe tripping with her friends at Camp Wapomeo and her family cottage on Lake Muskoka; her love of the outdoors and camp is something she passed on to her children. Cathy also loved tennis and playing on the Granite Club tennis team. Over the past few years her acting troupe, the Bedford Park Players, was a source of great laughter, joy and escape. She will be remembered by her countless friends for her ever-present smile, the twinkle in her eye, her contagious laughter and the bounce in her step as she walked her kids to school. Her positive attitude and never ending optimism, even in the face of an unfavourable prognosis, was an inspiration to all. Cathy spent her final weeks in the Palliative Care Unit at Princess Margaret Hospital where she amazed all who visited her or participated in her care with her grace, dignity and strength. She never complained about her situation and approached this fight the way she lived her life - with incredible energy and vigour. She was a great friend, a fantastic wife and mother and will never be forgotten. Cathy is survived and beloved by the Taylor and Veres families including Dr. William M Taylor & Pauline Adams, Lindsay Elliot (Joshua and Courtland), Doug and Pam Taylor (Christopher, Charlotte and Sarah), Tony & Ana Macek, Anthony Veres (Steven), Ross Alberts & Audra Veres (Carl, Catherine, Brianna) and Dino & Emily Filardo. Predeceased by brother David Taylor, father-in-law Charles Veres and brother-in-law Karl Veres. In lieu of flowers, a trust has been set up in Cathy's name, the proceeds of which will go to sponsor a Palliative Care room at Princess Margaret Hospital to honour her legacy in the place that gave her such great care and comfort. Donations can be made to the bank account Denis Veres in Trust for Cathy Taylor Veres, Toronto Dominion Bank Branch # 1020 Account # 6850399. A celebration of her life will be held at the Castlefield Event Theatre (formerly the Capital Event Theater) at 2492 Yonge Street, Toronto, Ontario on Wednesday May 8th, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. All are welcome to come bathe in Cathy's spirit and share in the memories that made up her life.
