Obituary of Philip Cross

PHILIP S. CROSS January 26, 1922 to February 23, 2013 Passed away, after a brief illness, at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto, on Saturday February 23, 2013 in his 92nd year. Husband of the late June (1980) and of the late Kathleen (2010) and brother of the late Elizabeth Green (2005). Lovingly remembered by daughters Lynne (Paul) and Rosemary (Michael), step-father to John (Brenda), Robert (Patricia), Katherine (Donald) and Russell and step-grandfather to ten grandchildren and one great- grandchild. Phil was born and raised in Toronto and attended Humberside Collegiate. He graduated in 1945 from the University of Toronto, B.A.Sc., P. Eng in Mining Engineering. His wartime service was with the Royal Canadian Engineers. Phil spent almost 50 years in the mining industry. Over his career, he worked with Dickenson Mines (Red Lake), Renabie Mines Ltd. (Wawa), Canadian Dyno Mines Ltd. (Bancroft) and Kerr-McGee Corporation (Grants, New Mexico). In 1963 he returned to Toronto eventually becoming the VP of Operations & Director with International Mogul Mines Ltd., and Chairman & Managing Director of Mogul of Ireland Ltd. In 1976 he joined Kerr Addison Mines Ltd. were he was the EVP and COO. Phil "retired" in 1987 and continued to consult with Kerr Addison until his final retirement in 1992. Phil was an avid reader, boater, golfer and antiques collector. He enjoyed spending time at the cottage on Gloucester Pool with his first wife June and at Bayshore Village on Lake Simcoe with his second wife Kathleen. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Phil's life will be held at a later date.
