Diana Lois McLean
1930 - 2013
Diana Lois McLean (nee Windeyer) died peacefully, surrounded by loving family, in Toronto on Friday, March 15, 2013.
Diana is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, David and children Sara, Meredith (Richard), Judith (Donald), Hugh (Mairead), Patricia and John (Julie); grandchildren Benjamin, Jessica, Maxwell, Fraser, Spencer, David, John, Rebecca, Andrew, Katherine, Kennedy, Devon, Tyler, Falon, Aidan, Oran, James, Jackson, Margaret and Harrison; and sisters Shelley, Lynn and Geale. Diana was predeceased by her father, Walter Windeyer, step-mother Dorothy Windeyer, her mother Lois Perry (Taylor), her sister Maddy and her brothers Pattee and Frank (Robin).
Born and raised in Toronto, Diana attended Branksome Hall and spent much time at the RCYC and Carleton Club with her family and friends. In 1951, Diana and David were married and they made their home in Thornhill, Ontario, where they lovingly raised six children. In 1978, Diana and David moved to Bermuda. Over the years, Diana and David divided their time between Bermuda, Florida, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos, and visiting their family in Canada when not travelling the world.
Diana's most important mission in life was to raise a large family and be surrounded by loved ones as often as possible. She took great joy in being in the company of her six children and twenty grandchildren. Diana was proud of graduating from Queen's University with a BA in psychology at the age of 64 and earning a special award in recognition for her academic success at Queen's.
Her strength of will and strong character has always served as a lesson to many.
