Stephanie I wanted to offer my sympathy in the loss of your father. Unfortunately I won't be able to attend the service as I have a prior commitment here in Ottawa. I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the time I spent working for and with your dad at Sunnybrook Family Practice. It was a great experience and I remember him fondly.

I am very sorry for your loss. I only knew Dr. Kandel for a short time about five years ago when he was still working as a grief counsellor at 88! Even though I mostly just sobbed through our sessions, I appreciated Dr. Kandel's sweet kindness. He spoke about his wife and family with such love that it gave me comfort in a time of great loss. I always looked forward to seeing him. Dr. Kandel told me all about his path to becoming a doctor in Canada - what a life and inspiration I'm sure he was to so many.

I had the pleasure of working as a nurse in the Sunnybrook ER in the 70's when Dr Kandel was very active there. He was a gifted diagnostician and already a legend. I recall when he had some health problems while in Florida. When he arrived back at Sunnybrook by ambulance we all lined up in the back hall of R as he went past to offer our best wishes. He also had a great sense of humor. I still remember the time I could not stifle a yawn. He remarked "Thank you for not swallowing me." My sincere condolences to Steve's family.
