Obituary of Edith Vuchnich
Edith Virginia Vuchnich
(nee Myers)
Peacefully, on Friday, February 1, 2013, after 98 wonderful years. Predeceased by her loving husband Michael "Mickey" Vuchnich. Much loved mother of Michael (Angela). Cherished grandmother of Courtenay (Simon Lester), Meredith (Christopher Donaldson), and Allison (Ward Smith). Adored "GG" to six great-grandchildren. Edith was a friend to all. She was many things - the definition of a lady - full of grace and poise and a trailblazing pioneer. Edith was born in Columbus, Ohio to Emma and Elmer Myers and met All-American football star Mickey at The Ohio State University. The couple was married in South Africa and then moved to Toronto for a life dedicated to family and service. Edith served as President of the YWCA Canada, the YWCA Toronto and as a member of the Y World Council. She was also an active member of the United Church of Canada and her home congregation and its community service. She was an avid traveller, lover of her French class, collector of creche sets, a bowler, golfer and member of Pi Beta Phi. She volunteered with the Rotary Club - Leaside, the United Way, and the American Women's Club. For her tireless efforts as a champion of those in need she was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal, the YWCA Women of Distinction Award and the OSU Alumni Citizenship Award. The family thanks her loving caregivers Ramonita Balaba and the teams at Easy Access, the CCAC and Briton House. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5th. The funeral service will be held in EGLINTON ST. GEORGE'S UNITED CHURCH, 35 Lytton Boulevard on Wednesday, February 6th at 11:00 a.m. If desired, donations to YWCA Toronto, Eglinton St. George's United Church or The Ohio State University Foundation would honour her passing.
