January 9 2008 Mary Angela (nee Koshmerl) Jordan married my brother Patrick when I was 15. She became my big sister and confidante in those first years of her marriage, always interested in life around her and encouraging my burgeoning efforts to become an adult. After my grade 13 exams when I was 17 , Mary persuaded Mom and Dad ,and big brother (and her husband) Pat to allow me to drive in a 10 year old VW bug with my friend Bruce to North Carolina. I had $110.00 in my pocket , no summer job , and was still unsure about going to university. It was an irreplacable and singular experience! During those years Mary worked shifts on the surgery floor at St.Joseph’s Hospital in west end Toronto. Her first married home was a one bedroom apartment on Jamieson Avenue which seemed to me to be the most magnificent edifice a 15 year old had ever seen.Decades later I recognized the typical grey high rise on apartment row held no distiguishing features except the afterglow of the palace that Mary had created there. Pat worked slavishly to complete his C.A., and soon the good news of Mary’s first pregnancy motivated a move to Leacrest Blvd, close by her in-laws. The young family shortly included son Bill and daughter Debbie. Mary’s work career slowly wound down as she and Pat determined to raise the family (to which son Larry was added in 1971) in a new home in Missisauga in 1968. Despite the demands of three young children Mary still had time for neighbours and family . She tenaciously returned to work as a nurse. Nothing however interfered with her devotion to the family and her own wonderful dog Casey-and always there was summer vacation at Honey Harbour. Through painful trials of illness, job variations and demands on time and finances Mary maintained her Catholic faith. She was a consistently artful crafter and chef –sharing her abilities whenever she could. There were occasions when the medications and therapy and one year of hospitalization which she endured would have reduced a much stronger person to absolute devastation , but not Mary. Her inner strength was as salutory and persevering always. To those who knew her, Mary was our model of patience, kindness and good humour. When we remember those virtues we will remember her.

She was a really great person, letting people she doesn't even know into her cottage. It's a sin that she's left. Such a great person she was, so joyful and caring. And may I add she was a great cook! But she's in a better place now, and our memories of Mary will stay with us and we will cherish them forever. May Mary Jordan rest in peace, and may my respects be with her always. Sincerely, Justin Park.
