Dear Margaret, it has been some time since we met but you may recall Sanibel Island many years back and the couple that came to stay for a week or so across the way from you and Ray. We still remember the bouquet of flowers that greeted us on our arrival. Ray called my wife "Linnie". We are very sorry to have missed the service for Ray but I was at meetings in Chicago (I am still working in my second career in the metals industry, even after 37 years at Algoma did not get enough) and could not return in time with the short notice we had. Lin and I both had a soft spot for Ray for any number of reasons that I am sure you know only too well. He was of course a real gentleman and in the years that I worked in the same office as Ray never heard him say a negative word about anyone- a real feat in the steel business back in the 60's and 70's. He also had great respect in the industry, again something I could only fully appreciate once I had sales responsibility later in my career. I was pleased to see the note about Ray's Caravel as we all knew how proud he was of that "collector's item". The pictures I remember showed a wooden boat absolutely glistening in the sun and reflecting the care and affection of its owner. A smile comes to me as I think back and the sales calls that Ray would religiously make Friday's all summer on Collingwood Shipyards- conveniently not all that far from where Caravel was moored. I know he was justifiably proud of his military service and my one regret is that he and my dad, who also retired from the Canadian army as a major but in a different role (who was living in Montreal so timing never worked) were unable to get together. I know they would have enjoyed each other's company. We realize this must be a very difficult time and you have our deepest sympathy, Ian & Linda Williams
