John Coatsworth (Jack) Stodgell March 29, 1925 - August 24, 2011 It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of dear Jack at home, of cancer, on Wednesday, August 24, 2011. He attended Prince Edward School and Walkerville Collegiate with friends who continued to be close for the rest of his life. He joined the navy from 1943-1945 and on his return attended U of T where he graduated from Commerce in 1948. After graduation, Jack went back to Windsor and joined his father's brokerage firm S. J. Jack moved the family to Toronto where he became the President of Walwyn Stodgell and Co. in 1961, at the age of 36. He remained in the position of President with this, and successor companies, until 1977 when he was appointed Chairman of Walwyn Stodgell Cochran Murray Limited, and retained this post until 1988. He was a major shareholder in this firm, the first national brokerage firm to go public. From 1988 to 1998 Jack focused on portfolio management at Midland Walwyn. When the company was sold to Merrill Lynch he resigned and immediately joined his son Robert at Stodgell Investment Management as a partner and Chairman. He held many positions of distinction and was a past Chairman of The Investment Dealer's Association of Canada. He was highly respected and a true gentleman.
