I had the pleasure of speaking with your father, Mr. Stodgell to me, a couple of years ago after not having seen him for 40+ years. He was just as I remembered him - tall, handsome, gentle and very kind. We had a very good conversation. I grew up across the street from your family on Chilver Rd. in Windsor. I remember visiting at your Lawrence Rd. home in Toronto shortly after you moved. Jane and I were fast friends. I recently came across photos of us all together as kids and one with Barbara in it as well. We had such fun then. I am saddened to learn that Jane has also passed away. My memories of her are very good ones. I have photos which I'd love to pass on if you are interested. Please accept my sincere sympathy on the loss of your father and your sister. My father, Don Jeffrey, sends his condolences as well. - Janis

The air at WSCM was different than the air at other investment dealers, and Jack Stodgell was responsible for that. There was a desire for excellence but it was tempered with the reality that we all had lives away from work. This difference really became clear to me when the firm was bought in 1988 and the atmosphere changed. Strangely, the work environment we have read about for 20 years at Microsoft and Google encourages this same kind of gentle and creative leadership where the best comes out of employees who are happy, not fearful.
There were many employee marriages that started as office romances at WSCM. We were one of those! Mr Stodgell took me out for lunch when he heard I was pregnant and wanted to advise me that Richard and I should consider Kitchen Aid appliances when we move into our new home. He thought they were the most dependable at the time. Like him.

Dear Bev: Sad I am. Another connection to my youth and my lifelong connection to the Stodgell family has ended. Our parents were teenage friends, so I have known Jack all my life.My brother and I went to Windsor for Sim's 100th birthday. And Bev, I have a connection to your family too. When your mother, a beautiful and charming lady had the shop in Acton, She was a customer for some of my frozen chicken products. (Was her friend's name Rhoda? Testing my memory.) Enjoyed my visits with her. your mother that is.)Because of our mutual interest in golf, (Canadian Seniors et al) I was always glad to be able to have brief visits with Jack. He was a gentleman, but that ran in the family. My life has been diminished by Jack's passing as well. Warmest regards and concern at your loss. Jack Purdy

I was so saddened by the news of Mr. Stodgell's passing. He was truly a gentle man or the 'gentle giant' as we called him because he was just so tall! Every time I saw him he asked me about how my kids were doing and asked what they were up to. They are now 3 and 5, and I loved sharing stories about them with Mr. Stodgell, he would always laugh when I would update him on their latest ventures. He was so kind to all of us and he will truly be missed. My deepest sympathies and condolences go out to his family and friends.

Barbara and Robert, We wish to send our condolences to you on the recent passing of your father. We remember him as a gentleman and a good neighbour. There are many fond memories growing up next door to the Stodgell family. My mother always spoke so highly of your Mom and Dad and often reminisced about her shopping trips to Hudsons in downtown Detroit with your mother. Sincerely, Charles, John and Gordon Gauthier
