Obituary of Alexander C., MD, MRCP

On March 3, 2007, one day after his 85th birthday, Dr. Alan C. Houston died in Toronto following many years of declining health. Much missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Phyllis, his daughter Naomi and her husband Rick Campbell (Gregor, Roddy, Alicia), his son Alex and his wife Ana (Peter), and his son Bryan and his wife Liane (Logan, Bridget, Dillon). Predeceased by his grandson Gar Campbell. Alan leaves numerous relatives and friends in the UK, Sarnia, and Sanibel. Following his graduation from Queen�s University, Belfast (1946), Alan served in Palestine as a Captain in the RAMC. He emigrated from Northern Ireland in 1952 and practiced Internal Medicine in Sarnia and Petrolia, Ontario for 33 years. His concern for his Cardiac patients was evident in his efforts to help establish the first CCU at the Sarnia General Hospital as well as initiate the Cardiac Fitness Program for heart attack victims. Alan was a fine, gentle man and a compassionate physician who took great pleasure traveling and photographing the world, tending to his roses, reading his newspapers and watching Sesame Street with his grandchildren. His family appreciates the wonderful care given him by everyone at Christie Gardens and Dr. David Tang-Wai at Toronto Western Hospital.
