Dear Mrs. Colter and family: I was sorry to learn of Justice Colter's death after a long and distinguished life. In 1982-83, I was fortunate enough to have been selected as a Law Clerk to then Chief Judge Colter of the Ontario County and District Courts. I have fond memories of that year and remember Justice Colter as a kind, decent and courteous gentleman. He was always encouraging and never failed to compliment you if he felt you had done a good job. As a newly minted lawyer, praise from such a senior jurist meant a great deal.
