Obituary of George Jeffs

JEFFS, George Henry, Normandy Veteran, served with the Governor General�s Horse Guards, Welland Canal Squadron, 1939, and the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps. in the U.K., France, Belgium, Holland and Germany, George began his career in the civil service in 1950, joining the Federal Government in the Immigration Division of the Department of Citizenship, Immigration and Indian Affairs. After a succession of senior positions including Ontario Region Director, Ontario Region Director of Facilitation Enforcement Control and four years in foreign service, George retired in 1987 from the Immigration Division of the Department of Manpower and Immigration as District Director of Immigration for the greater Toronto area. George was a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal. George died peacefully at K-Wing, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto on Friday, December 1, 2006, in his 86th year. George was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend Fern (nee Nelson), and his sister Cynthia Smith. Survived by his brother-in-law Sam Smith, sister-in-law Kay Lodge, nephews Steven Smith, Doug Lodge, niece Ann McLaughlin, and their families. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Monday, December 4, 2006. Service in the chapel on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception in the Leaside Room of the funeral home. Interment at a later date with his wife, in Springhill, Nova Scotia.
