Obituary of Edward Thomas O'Hagan
Edward OHagan
May 4, 1936 - August 13, 2006
Considered a true gentleman by many who knew him well, Edward OHagan lived his life with dignity and grace and left this world in the same manner on August 13th after living with lung cancer for more than 4 years. Never one to complain, he was an example of courage, patience and determination throughout his illness. He will be forever missed and never forgotten by his partner of 36 years, Ken Barichello.
Edwards parents of Woodstock, New Brunswick, predeceased him over 30 years ago. He is survived by one brother, Richard (Wanda) and their children Anne, Peter (Sarah) of New York, Christina (Chris) Valentine. Ed will fondly be remembered by his cousins John (Zora) Plummer of Surrey, British Columbia and Harold (Barbara) Plummer of Woodstock, New Brunswick with whom he maintained an on going friendship for all these years. As well he is survived by his aunt Jean Burden of Fredericton and several other cousins.
After graduating from Saint Francis Xavier University in 1958, Ed moved to Toronto where he worked briefly for Shell Oil but he soon made a move into education. Ed will be best remembered by his teaching colleagues in the Scarborough Board of Education where for most of his career as Department Head at Sir Oliver Mowat, he established an excellent reputation of having one of the finest business departments in the borough. He had the ability to surround himself with very talented, creative individuals who worked well as a team and grew into a close knit "family of caring individuals who have shared many of lifes experiences together to this day.
Throughout his illness Edward was treated by many doctors and medical staff who provided the finest care and attention. We would especially like to thank the Chemo nurses at Sunnybrook Cancer Centre for their dedication, caring and kindness which was so helpful during the many long hours of treatments and the Palliative Care team who cared for him in his final days.
There are no words that can express the appreciation Ed had for his favourite nurse "Dr. Scott Daniluk, who for the past 2 years visited him daily at home and provided incredible care, humour and immeasurable support. Your friendship and love will always be cherished.
A sincere thank you to all of those who sent messages, cards, flowers and visited of kept in touch during his lengthy illness. Ed was very appreciative of your gestures of kindness and support.
