Dear Mrs. Patterson-Smyth: I was very sorry to hear about the death of your husband. Uncle John was a part of my childhood. My father and Uncle John were very old friends. (I think that they met at Wycliffe.) One of my childhood memories is of my father and Uncle John enjoying a quiet scotch or going to movies together. I always felt that your husband was a truly good man and a good priest. I will be thinking of you. Kathy Garnsworthy Edmonton

Isabel, you have been a good friend to me for many, many years. I am sure you were a wonderful support to John. He was very lucky to have you. Now I hope you have fond memories of the happy, healthy times that you had together. My thoughts are with you. Nancy.

1379 Dudley Crescent Winnipeg MB R3M 1P1 24 October 2007 Humphrey Funeral Home – A.W.Miles Chapel 1403 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, ON As the surviving brother-in-law to the Reverend John Paterson-Smyth I can only express my condolences to his widow Isabel and her family at this time of his passing. We the family of Mary Winifred, John’s sister, have been aware of the care given John by them, for these few years of his deep illness. We must express our gratitude for their continuing care. We were two Ontario families posted by the Anglcan Church to posts in Windsor, NS; my father to King’s College and the Collegiate School, as then known, and Mary and John’s father to the Parish Church in the town of Windsor. Separated for years, we were joined again in Toronto following the death of their father, the Reverend Charles Paterson-Smyth. Mary trained as an occupational therapist and John studied theology. During war-time, Mary and I had visits together on many occasions in England, with marriage to follow after the return from overseas. John was very much a doting uncle to our four children, Peter, Stephen, Mark and Rebecca, and sharing his home and support to their good, in many ways. Alan F Judd

We are remembering John today, and are realizing how much has been lost with the passing of our dear uncle. He was a generous and kindly man with immense charity, who never spoke ill of anyone. We send our sympathies to all those close to him, and to all those who knowingly or unknowingly benefited from his presence on earth. Our annual Thanksgiving Day was hugely graced by John's presence for many years. We will remember him at that event in the future, and the memory of his examples will always inspire our own giving and thanksgiving.
