ST. JOHN, Judith G. (Former Head Osborne, Lillian H. Smith and Canadiana Collection, Toronto Public Library) After a short illness in Toronto on October 17, 2007, in her 94th year. Judith St. John, loved daughter of the late Reverend A. Newton and Gertrude St. John, loving sister of the late Elizabeth St. John and the late J. Bascom St. John and his late wife Phyllis. Lovingly remembered by her nephews Robert (Catherine) and Brian (Susan), her grandniece, 3 grandnephews, a great-grandnephew and three great-grandnieces. Born in Bolton, Ontario on August 4, 1914, Judith graduated from the University of Toronto (Dip. Lib '34) and joined the Toronto Public Library as a children's librarian the same year. She was Head of the Osborne Collection of Early Children's Books from 1952-79. She was a renowned expert on the history of children's books and lectured widely on the topic.
