It is almost a year since we lost Edith but memories of her linger on. Rather than dwelling on the last few years of her life, we prefer to remember her up at the cottage at Stoney Lake enjoying Kathy and her friends and including me (Rosemarie) into her family.

To my "Ma"
Now I lay me down to sleep.
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.
This is the prayer Ma taught me when I was little.
I love you always and forever....your grandaughter...Ginette xo

Kathy and Bill, Robert, Elizabeth and family, our thoughts are with you this day we celebrate Edith's life. Aunt Ede, thanks for all the wonderful memories. Christmas dinners with family and friends, weekends at Stoney Lake and Collingwood. I will always remember you telling me, "be strong", at Uncle George's funeral. A special thanks for giving me one of your gold hammer lapel pins many years ago when I was learning the carpentry trade I will always cherish this. Everyone please raise your glass of vodka and club soda with lime, glass of red wine or whatever it is that reminds you of this great lady. Aunt Ede, you are very loved and you will be missed. Love Bill, Jenna and Bradley

How fitting to be writing this message right after returning from a trip that included several days in Holland. As a very old and dear friend of our Stoney Lake family, Edith brought such joy to my parents, Esther & Bill, to my brother Bob and I and to our children as they grew up on the lake. There was always lots of music and mayhem - both on the boozer cruiser and on the Becigneul deck or the Adams dock. My last visit with Edith was at the Manor - her enjoying a glass of red wine outside, just like she did at Stoney. On behalf of my family, we love you Edith; you will be missed. I hope that you get another jive in with Dad! Love Lynn

On behalf of my family, I want to express our sadness in hearing that my favorite cousin, Edith, had passed away. When I first came to the city in 1961 Edith and her husband, George, were very generous and helpful to me. They opened their home and their hearts, and invited me to stay with their family, while I was looking for a place to bring my own family to the Toronto area. Edith and her family have extended constant kindness to our family over the years, in having us at their cottage and chalets. In the past gtenk years, whenever Kathy and. Bill hosted us in Collingwood, spending time with Edith was always an important and enjoyable part of the trip. We will miss Edith very much and Collingwood won't be the same without her. Edith, you gave Pierrette and I so many enjoyable times. Thankp you so much for always being you - a tue van Rassel, and thank you for so many wonderful memories. With much love, Bob & Pierrette & family

So sorry to hear of Aunt Edie's passing. I was too young to remember everything about her, but I do remember her fun spirit, kindness, and playing cards at the cottage. I hope she rests in peace.

Laurie and I together with Danielle & Stacey, want to express our condolences on the passing of your mother. I was reading through the messages and many describe a person who enjoyed company and a party. This is my memory as well and, of course, would be an apt description of both van Rassel sisters, a trait they certainly inherited from their parents. I fully agree with my sister Pat, raise a glass to a life well lived.

Aunt Edie was a blast! I loved learning and playing card games with her at the cottage, and she always had time to listen to my stories or joke around. A very smart, well-respected, and fun lady.

Edith always shared great times with us at Stoney Lake and always welcomed me and joined in all our jokes with the 'girls' Even at Blue Mountain Retirement Home, we marvelled at her spirit, working on her excersises every morning and joining all the activities. At Sunset Manor there were good times and over the years, bad times but she never complained. Bill & Kathy have been her saviours and were there for her through thick and thin. She will always be remembered at all our celebrations which she loved to attend when she was able. We will miss you Edith. Rosemarie & Vincent

On behalf of my mother, Marie Malone, and my husband and myself, I would like to make a toast to Edith on a life well lived. I will always remember Aunt Ede from my visits to Toronto and from trips to her cottage, but mostly I will remember Edith from my mother's tales of herself and her sister, Edith. Boy, those van Rassel girls had energy and vitality! Even up into their very advanced years, they always wanted to be part of the action. I'm sorry that Aunt Ede is gone, but life without the chance for a little party isn't much fun for a van Rassel. Let us all raise a glass to Edith, who brought such verve to life!

Kathy and Bill my sincere condolences on Edith's passing. I know the last few years were tough, but I will always remember Edith as she was in Collingwood and Stoney Lake. So welcoming to everyone, ready for that "tipsy olive" martini. I will never forget her being Aunt Edie to Grant and teaching him to be a better card player than she was. So many wonderful memories of an amazing lady.

This is Sept.5 and my Mother would have been 100 today...sadlyshe passed away at 39. I found Edith , years later and she took me under her wing and said I could have her for my stand-in Mom and what a wonderful Mom she was . Kathy and Bill have been just fabulous family to her and I have watched them with respect and admiration for the constant care and love they felt for Edith .. when Bill would come into the room her eyes would light up and she was so happy to have them with her. Now she can rest in peace and she is at last with George and my mother as well. God bless and keep her.. a life to be proud of!
