It is with great sadness that the family of R. Donald Fullerton announces his sudden but peaceful passing. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his beloved wife and best friend of 35 years, Judy, along with his dear children Robert (Susan), Geoff (Ann), Steve (Suchitra), Bruce (Mary), Alan (Paola) and Leslie (Niall). He also leaves his darling grandchildren Jake, Barrett, Kira, Catherine, Laura, Elizabeth, Spencer, Beckett, Sloane and Charlie. He is predeceased by his brother Jim Fullerton and is survived by his sister Margaret Buchinger. Don served as Chief Executive Officer, President and Chairman of Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce from 1985 to 1992. He joined Canadian Imperial Bank in 1953 and worked his way up through the ranks. Don also served on many boards over the course of his lifetime including, CIBC, Husky Energy Inc., Westcoast Energy Inc., Partner Communications Co. Ltd., George Weston Limited, Honeywell Inc., Alcan, Amoco Petroleum Canada, Coca Cola Ltd., IBM Canada Limited, Ontario Hydro, Wellesley Hospital, Asia Satellite Telecommunications Holdings Ltd., Orange PLC, 3 Italia S.p.A and the Li Ka Shing (Canada) Foundation. An athlete at heart, Don loved to ski, water-ski, play golf and was a renowned hockey player. Intellectually curious, he was an avid reader and lover of history. Don will no doubt be remembered for his dry sense of humor. A larger than life man, Don was committed to his family, his community and many charitable causes. He lived life with integrity and without pretense, leaving a lasting impression on all who were lucky enough to meet him. Thanks to the compassionate team of outstanding professionals at St. Michael's Hospital, who worked valiantly to preserve the dignity that he so deserved. A celebration of Don's life will be held at GRACE CHURCH ON-THE-HILL, 300 Lonsdale Road, Toronto, on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Private interment. Following the service, friends of Don are invited to the YORK CLUB, 135 St. George Street.
