Obituary of William MacKenzie
MacKENZIE, William Sutcliffe, D.D.S., F.I.C.D.
Passed away peacefully in his 86th year on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the Veteran's K-Wing at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Predeceased by his loving wife Ann (1996) and his sisters, Marjorie L. MacKenzie and Ningie Young (James). Beloved father of Cynthia J. D'Onofrio (George) and Wendy A. Murray (John). Cherished grandfather of Andrea D'Onofrio and David D'Onofrio (Nancy).
Bill was a Flying Officer - Navigator in the RCAF and served overseas in 1943. Upon returning, he enrolled in Dentistry at the University of Toronto, graduated in 1951 and practiced for 43 years. He was very active in the Academy of Dentistry in Toronto and served as President in 1974-75. In 1991, he was given an Honourary Lifetime Membership, together with his wife, Ann. He also received the Award of Merit of the ODA in 1986 and was President of the CDA in 1972-73. He was also a very active member of the Family Service Association for eleven years and served as Chairman and Vice-President. He was an active member of the Fort York Branch #165, Royal Canadian Legion and became Vice-President of the Royal Canadian Dental Corp Association. He had a life-long love and interest in railways and model rail-roading in particular. He enjoyed many happy years as a member of the Granite Club, Curling Section. Devoted and long time member, elder and centre aisle usher of Timothy Eaton Memorial Church. Bill enjoyed the company of family and friends in Muskoka throughout his life-time.
The family wishes to thank all of the nursing staff and doctors at Sunnybrook K-2 West Wing, especially Analiza, Bridget, Hongxia, Helen and Cindy for their care and kindness.
A private family service and interment will take place. A Service of Remembrance will be held in TIMOTHY EATON MEMORIAL CHURCH, 230 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto on Tuesday, June 7th at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association, 7100 Woodbine Avenue, Suite 311, Markham L3R 5J2 or Timothy Eaton Memorial Church (M4V 1R5).
