Cornelius Hyde

Obituary of Cornelius Hyde

January 17, 1941 - May 12, 2011 Con died peacefully, at home, in the presence of his family, after a 5-year battle with cancer, fought without bitterness. Life-partner of Nora and devoted father of Fergus, Richella, Daniel and Aidan. Born in Ballingeary, Co. Cork, he was the son of the late Daniel and Catherine, and the loving brother of Dónal (deceased), Padraig, Seán, Eileen, Mícheál and baby Diarmuid (deceased). Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1970, Con taught at Hamilton High School, Bandon, Co. Cork and in Glen, Co. Limerick, Ireland. In Canada, he worked for the Toronto District School Board (special education) until his retirement in 2006. Con will be remembered as a man of integrity. He was patient, kind, handy and athletic, with a rye sense of humor. He was quiet-spoken but the weight of his words and his gentle manner were always calming. Deepest gratitude to family, friends and colleagues for all their kindness, support and understanding. Special thanks to the Princess Margaret Hospital, in particular to Drs. Lillian Siu and Anthony Brade, for prolonging his life. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 15th. Funeral mass will be at ST. BONAVENTURE'S CHURCH, 1300 Leslie Street at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 16th, followed by interment at Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.
