Obituary of Jack McQuaig
Jack McQuaig
In his 98th year, Jack passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2011. He had a passion for life right till the end.
He will be greatly missed by Audrey, his loving wife of 63 years, his devoted children Peter, Linda, John (wife Janet), Wendy (husband Fred), grandchildren Kate, Laura, Margot, Jacqueline, Jay, Jennie, Murray, Amy, Anna, Max, great-grandson William. He was predeceased by his beloved mother Zoe, his father William, his sister Helene, as well as his own dear son Don.
Born in Calgary, Jack moved to the Ottawa area with his family in his teens. He earned a Bachelor of Commerce at Queen's, where he played on the university hockey team. After serving overseas as an officer during World War II, he completed an MA in psychology at the University of Toronto. A pioneer in the field of industrial psychology, Jack established the McQuaig Institute of Executive Development, where he continued to be involved all his life. He was active in Rotary, the Arts and Letters Club and Armour Heights Presbyterian Church.
A wonderful, inspiring speaker, he addressed large audiences throughout Canada and the United States. He also loved writing, and authored ten books on leadership, motivation, positive thinking and spirituality.
He was deeply devoted to his family and to finding the key to healthy and happy living -- which he apparently found. Blessed all his life with exceptional health and good cheer, he enjoyed life to the fullest. Well into his 90s, he delighted in new challenges and adventures, improving his golf, writing books, driving a red sports car and taking singing lessons. He died peacefully, his wife at his side, after singing one of his favourite songs, "Pack Up Your Troubles in your Old Kit Bag and Smile, Smile, Smile."
Special thanks to his terrific team of caregivers: Maria, Pat, Odeline, Lerma and nurse Ashita.
The funeral will be held in ARMOUR HEIGHTS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 105 Wilson Avenue, Toronto on Thursday, May 19 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the United Way, 26 Wellington Street East, 2nd Floor, Toronto M5E 1W9 would be greatly appreciated.
