Dear Susan and family Cliff and I regret that we were unable to visit and convey these condolences personally last Sunday. Your mother lived a long and full life, but anytime is too soon to lose a beloved parent. We wish you comfort in the memories you keep of her and are thinking of you and Patrick at this time of loss. Sincerely, Joan Lax

Dear Mr. Lang, Susan, Michael, Sheila and families, I am saddened to hear of Helen's passing. My memories of her take me back to childhood times, sharing birthday parties, playing with Susan at the house at McDonald and Pim, and then at the big house on Queen Street. Helen was always near by, offering treats...(I have a very tasty recollection of her homemade lemon drink on a hot summer day at the cottage!), friendly conversations ... (there was a certain exotic aura to her soft, English accent for me). She and my mother, Ruby, were good friends and I know Mom was frequently cheered up during her illness, by flower bouquets that Helen would have delivered to our home and phone calls Helen made to check up on her friend. Thank you Helen, for your friendship and kindness to all our family. And to all the Langs, I send my love and sympathy. love, Peg Robertson

To the Lang family; I was so sorry to hear about your mother's passing. Among the memories stirred up by this knews: . a vision of two ladies (themselves on the sunny side of 50) delivering "meals on wheels", sometimes joking about how they should be on the delivery schedule . a gaggle of Soo ladies, enjoying cookies and tea in the family room between rounds of "full contact" bridge . gala "must be there" Christmas parties . elegant white glove arts and social events . the joy of knowing mother is at home when school day ends . parents who knew what they were doing, raising kids they can be proud of. On behalf of the generation of kids that grayed the hairs of Helen (and the great women who were lucky to call her friend), a tip of the hat to you Helen. And thank you. Doug Robertson

As I remember Aunt Helen, I think of her smile drawing its presence from one side of her mouth more than the other often conveying a sense that while she may have been glad to see me she also seemed to know if I was up to any mischief. My siblings and I thought of her as quietly confident, kind and thoughtful especially of our mother, a fellow British ex pat. We will remember her fondly, Celia, John, Philip and Jane.

The Wallace and Lang families have been friends for three generations. Like other war brides who took the thin with the thick in the post-war years, Helen applied her distinctive sense of humour to managing a new life and a growing and dynamic family -- she was the pivot around which the whole family turned. Friends remember her graciousness as a hostess, her personal kindness in times of crisis, her quickness of wit, and her unswerving sense of duty. We knew her best at the Lang cottage where so often her tact, sympathy, sense of occasion, or simply her humour supported us through bad times and enhanced so many good ones. Our condolences to her family on the end of an era in their lives -- and ours.
