Obituary of John Edward Creighton

John Edward Creighton 1958-2011 It is with great sadness that the family of John E. Creighton announces his sudden passing on Sunday, March 27, 2011 in his 53rd year. Predeceased by his mother, Helen. John is survived by his father Robert, his beloved wife Sandra (nee Woodall) and his adored daughter Alexandra, brother David, sisters Elizabeth and Marilyn (Bruno). He will be sorely missed by many nieces, nephews and extended family. A lifelong resident of Leaside, John graduated from Leaside High School. He began working in the automotive parts business and then branched into the petroleum industry in management and sales. He established his own company, Leader Petroleum Ltd., circa 1992. Leader Petroleum Ltd. has become a successful distributor of industrial lubricants, petroleum products and racing fuels. John was a diehard hockey and baseball fan. He was an avid player himself and supported the Toronto Maple Leafs through thick and thin, especially enjoying "Coach's Corner." He was a committed advocate and supporter of local community sports teams, also coaching "loop" hockey for many years. His interests also extended to the track, his favourite "ponies," and the one-armed bandit. John's love of transportation - trains, planes and limousines, extended to include his semi-annual "fix" of sunshine in the Bahamas and Florida. John will be remembered as "Mr. Leaside" - known to so many and valued by all. His love and knowledge of the Leaside community was renowned. His routine of daily walks around Leaside with his daughter will be missed. He had a natural ability to meet, befriend and genuinely care about those he came into contact with. These are the attributes that endeared him to all who knew him. John was his own man, he did what needed to be done. John's life would not have been complete without his wife Sandy, the love of his life, and his daughter Allie, the apple of his eye. They were his source of constant joy and comfort. He will be remembered for his strength, wisdom, quick wit, and unconditional love of family and friends. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 31. Funeral services will be held in LEASIDE UNITED CHURCH, 822 Millwood Road, on Friday, April 1 at one o'clock. Private interment. If desired, and with much appreciation, the family would like to honour John's memory by sponsoring a dressing room at the new Leaside Arena project in Leaside Memorial Gardens, recognizing his love of hockey. Donations can be made to the East York Foundation, 50 Merritt Road, East York, M4B 3K6 in memory of John Creighton, or through www.leasidearena.com.
